EvanPC
So I spent my day off today putting together this video. I bought a Shure Beta 57a over the weekend on a whim, and decided to make a demo of it vs my SM57. If you're on the "other forum" you may see this posted there as well. So sorry for the redundancy... Let me know what you think. Hopefully I gave both mics a fair and accurate depiction with the resources I have. Thanks!
Artie Owl
NIce work Evan, I liked the SM57 myself. Maybe it's because I have one and I'm bias? I don't know. Cheers!
rocketman
Great comparison. I also like the sound of the SM57 (yeah I own a bunch of them myself so maybe I am biased too).
EvanPC
Yeah, I'm not surprised that the initial general consensus comes back in favor of the SM57. However, I'm glad that at least in my opinion, the differences are slight between the mics. This was a direct A/B comparison, but in my little experimenting yesterday, I think these two mics could really compliment one another. I was getting some really nice sounds by putting the SM57 directly centered on the cone, and putting the Beta on the edge of the speaker. Kind of a nice, blended balance...And the fuller, airy-er sound you'd expect from "stereo" recording.
