I know this topic may offend some purists. BUT -- I want to add in a middle pickup to a used and scratched up Howard Roberts Fusion III that I bought really inexpensive so that I could make some mods. It's my favorite jazz/retro guitar I've ever heard - bar none. However - I'd also like to add in a more biting sound to make it more versatile, so I'm thinking of routing in a Fender Texas Special in the middle (wired for a bridge position sound). My question - most folks that I've spoken with (while offended by the idea of messing up such a collectible guitar) have said that the structural changes are so minor as to not really worry about it - the original sounds from the other pickups that I enjoy so much shouldn't be affected. Any opinions one way or the other? Obviously that is the one element of nervousness - I don't care too much about the collector's value or how it looks - just want to make sure the original pickup positions sound pretty much the same.
Thanks for any advice.

I purchased and sent back one last month- Bought as new arrived beat! Crack in the side of the cut away and loose truss rod. Oh well, I like the Fusion 1's better with the stop tail piece. Good luck on the mods!!
