Pick-Up Selector Switch

Recommended Posts

Having trouble with the mid position of my switch on my Les Paul Studio. The bridge pickup is not being engaged. Only the neck pickup can be heard. Can't hear both. It (the bridge pickup) plays fine in the treble position. Neck pickup also plays fine in the rhythm position.

I've taken off both the switch and control plates on the back of the guitar. All wires seem secure. Is there any other simple fixes I can try??? Fairly new (2 years) guitar.

Thanks!

It seems to me that the problem is at the toggle switch. You may need to remove it and clean the contacts and double-check that the wiring is definitetly secure and/or not shorting to another wire. A multimeter might be handy to check continuity from the switch cavity to the control cavity connections.

Sould not be too difficult to trace it down. Google for a Les Paul wiring diagram and compare yours to it.

Good Luck

Thanks, Retro!!! Sadly, I have no idea what a multimeter is!!! Guess I'll have to take this in to have it repaired! For your info, I asked the "repair specialists" at Gibson and the best they could do was suggest I replace the switch (2 yr old instrument!) and have the entire guitar rewired!!! Oi!!!
