brians356
When did Gibson stop using ivory for saddles and nuts? My older technical literature suggests ivory was the preferred material, and would have been abandoned only for economic or (much later) political reasons. John Lee Walker
Not sure when Gibson stopped using it, as I'm sure they had it stockpiled, but the trade ban went into effect around '89-'90 if I remember correctly. Colt firearms stopped offering ivory grips for their handguns right around that time, too.

Thermionik
. . Maybe that's why hefalumps don't play Gibsons..... Well - they don't - when did YOU last see a hefalump playing a Gibson.
guitarstrummer
I checked with someone at Gibson and was told that they have never seen a Gibson Flat-top Acoustic guitar with Ivory appointments. The first Flat-Top Acoustics were introduced in 1926 and they were bone. Some of the very early oval hole arch-top Orville inspired acoustics may have used Ivory as they were quite elaborate but the regular production guitars were bone. There were some tuner knobs with Ivory but not any from the Flat-top era.
