Got a new Martin D12X1AE (MIM)

Here's how it all went down: My wife and I went out for Pizza at our favorite place, Alfredo's in San Bernardino - best pizza there is. On the way home I asked if she wouldn't mind going to Guitar Center - I just wanted to have a looksee is all. Really, that's all I wanted, honest!

So after looking at all kinds of electrics, (I was gassing for a Fender Jaguar) we went into the acoustic room where I began to strum on a nice Martin 6 string when I spotted a Martiin 12 that I hadn't seen before. I just had to give a try. I played Hotel California and Neil Young's I am child and Mrs. Fretter fell in love with it and insisted I get it.

Here she is, my new 12 string Roxann

She aint real pretty, kinda plain Jane, but she plays real nice and sounds great. Very low action for an acoustic.

Thanks, Rob! It was $599 USD. I thougght it waas an incredibly good price for a Martin and then I found out about it being an MIM which didn't matter much to me as it has a real nice sound. But more importamtly, Mrs. Fretter loves it.

I don't play acoustics because of an arthritic shoulder, but that looks like a nice guitar fretter.

Give the missus a kiss, she deserves one.

Love acoustic 12s and Martin makes some nice ones. Get a capo and learn Here Comes the Sun, I found that one works every time on Mrs Tweed. [wink]

LOL, I never could get that song before but I may give it another try with the 12.

Mrs. Fretter did put a condition on this guitar, I have to learn the "broom song" as she calls it. Neil Young's Harvest Moon. She loves that song. Currently I can only play a small part and I already know that I'm doing it wrong.

Your wife has excellent taste! [thumbup] ...I've just started playing the "broom song" myself,.... mind you on my 6 string Taylor. This tutorial is for a six stringer,... but might help out...

Fretter,

Jumbo body! That guitar has got to sound awesome.
As to the plain Jane thing....I've always considered that a plus on acoustics.

Congrats on a beauty!!

Thanks for the vid but I couldn't open it. Something about copyright issues between US and Canada. :( I've gone to Youtube and there's a few others though. Mostly involving Drop D tuning which I want to avoid. I don't know any songs in Drop D and I don't want to change tuning for just one song. Besides, I think that is just sick and it's wrong. The few that aren't Drop D, I'll have to learn some new chords but that's ok. It will just take me a little while longer to learn the song.
