lanea
Hi - I am looking at some 2011 VOS SG Standard Reissues online - the two I am looking at do not have an associated year ( ie 62) but they both have Les Paul on the truss cover. I see the current catalog custom shop SG Standard is showing a blank truss cover ( implying post '62?) - anyway - the specs look the same - I am confused about this though - any insight? thanks alot for your help Andy
Tim Plains
My 2008 has "Les Paul" on the truss rod cover. It's just a piece of plastic on a guitar and I wouldn't put much thought into it. They may have just decided to use a black TRC now.
lanea
Thanks for that - good point - maybe Les paul's estate told them to nix it since he didnt like the SG.. anyhoo - i bought it - thanks for your help
sellen
Mine 2007 has a blank truss-rod cover. Guess it's on off what they put on. It may be as simple that they where empty for those les paul covers Anyway post picks if you can, and congrats with a great guitar[thumbup]
TattooedCarrot
The first two digits of the SN# indicate the year the gutiar was made. The last digit represents the year being reissued. The middle three numbers are the production sequence of that model for that year. EXAMPLE: 071232 That SN# would be the 123rd 1962 RI made in 2007. I've owned a four of these, from years '00, '02, '06, and '09 and all had the Les Paul truss cover. But I've heard sometimes they did not, probably just an issue of what Gibson had on hand? I don't know.

Guest farnsbarns
I thought the first digit told you what year was being reissued and the second told you the year of manufacture so 11234 would be the 234th 61 reissue made in 2001 or 2011. Certainly that's how LP reissues work. Also I believe that, in my example, 234 would represent the number of 61 reissues so far in the year, but not necessarily all the same model otherwise a 59 reissue LP could have the same serial as a 59 reissue 335 or whatever else. No?

Did you compare it to a USA Standard or '62 reissue? Are they still using rosewood fingerboards? I'm thinking of getting the Custom Shop SG standard reissue, too, and would be interested in your thoughts. Enjoy!
DogsPart2
Historic SGs are fantastic guitars. A few years ago, I sold a fantastic 61 Korina "Les Paul" on the TRC. I have regretted selling that one for a long time. This week, I was able to make a deal for another Korina I recently found. I will sacrifice my Martin, however I am stoked for the SG. Pics when she arrives. BTW, does anyone know where I can get a 5 hole guard (same as on the guitar pic)? WD does not have one.

No? That applies to '52 - '60 reissues. '61 on goes like this: 1961-1969 Firebird, Les Paul, and SG reissues (since 1997): YYRRRM Y is the production year RRR® indicates the guitar's place in production for that year. M is the model being reissued Reissue model codes: 1= SG Custom and Special 2= SG Standard 3= 1963 Firebird 1 4= 1964 Firebird III 5= 1965 Firebird V & VII 8= 1968 Les Paul Custom Examples: 050102 is the 10th SG Standard reissue produced in 2005. 030084 is the 8th 1964 Firebird III reissue produced in 2003.
