OK friends take 2.

Please nobody be silly and muck this one up!

I've been mucking around with an IPhone "3S" that my youngest daughter had (1 month old) and didn't need. I have been having ongoing issues with a Motorola phone I bought with birthday money and fighting to get my Telco to take it back. I mentioned to Danni that what I really wanted was an IPhone but couldn't afford it and she offered me this one. An early Fathers day present, we agreed.

I had some issues getting it unlocked as I have never done these things before but got there after 5 hours of downloads replacing the phone's software in it's entirety.

The issue that would decide whether this phone was suitable for me was coverage as they are certainly not a fringe area phone and weren't designed to be. The only place we get signal here out in the sticks is through the lounge room window so I headed there but nothing indicating on the strength meter...Bugger!

I rang our home number and it rang! Spoke to Gael and the signal was fine. I then rang Danni in Queensland and told her that I had it working. Bloody Ripper!

Basically I want a smart phone as we use SMS a lot, particularly for family and I hate the old method of pushing a button a number of times.

I really like this phone. Compared to my Motorola everything works as advertised and the battery seems to go for 3 or 4 days, whereas the other one went 8 hours if apps were on.

Now a question to all you experienced IPhone users. With the IMessage function does that simply detect other Apple products and work automatically or do you have to do something to tell the phone that it's an IMessage, not a normal SMS?

Second question is, what is the little switch on the top left hand side of the phone that switches towards the back? Is it a locking function? Help appreciated thanks.

Cool day 15 max predicted and some showers. I wonder if the grass will be dry enough to mow? And IT'S OFFICIALLY SPRING TODAY! Yay!!!

Over to you.

I'm glad you did this, Digger. I told myself that if someone didn't, by the time I came home from work, I would. Like Stu, this is always one of my favorite threads. Well done.

Yay... an all new 'WOYMTD' thread [thumbup] [thumbup]

I really don't know about the iMessage thing (gonna have to check that out myself today), but the Top LHS switch simply mutes the ring tone!

Cheers.

Thanks mate, That helps a lot. The IMessage (freeSMS between Apple products) all I had to do was to enable it in Settings...Messages, and I have already done that.

Do you mean enabling the MMS function?

I'm not that clued up on this stuff Stu but "I Message" is uniquely an Apple feature allowing transmission of text, pics etc FREE between I Phones, I Pod's etc.

Many of our rellos have Apple stuff so free is good!

Change of plan for Fathers Day tomorrow!

As there are none of my kids around here tomorrow we are going to them. Heading up early to stay with son and family, other son there too. Perhaps see Gael's sister and visit a sick friend on the way home Monday.

It's all good!

I'm gonna be a bit quiet here for the next few days so too all you fathers out there...HAVE AN AWESOME DAY! YOU DESERVE IT!

Daughter Egglette & her very acceptable military BF are currently roasting Lamb Racks as a special early Fathers Day dinner tonight [thumbup]

Then, literally whilst I've been typing this, I get a call that our Night Manager has called in sick & that I might have to head into work for an 11pm start [thumbdn]

Anyways... HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL OUR FORUM DADS if that's on your calender this weekend!

glad to see the thread back up !! I "lurk" here occasionally, but until now have had little on my mind to speak of.
I guess Fathers Day is celebrated on a different day in Oz than here in "the 48", so yes, happy Fathers Day to any and all !!

the past few days my mind and heart have both been very heavy, much moreso than normal, because Thursday would have been my Sons 30th birthday, but as y'all know he was killed when he was 17.
it's been over 12 yrs now and sometimes the grief is still almost too much to bear.
I've not "drank as a hobby" since '07, and really try to keep my narco consumption to a "medicinal" level, but at times like these I sure could use a fix, and a few years to sleep it off.

anyhow, I found a scannable copy of one of the last pics taken of him, you've seen him with his guitar, but here's another side of him.
he was rising quickly in our local "Police Explorer" unit of the Boy Scouts, and was already guaranteed a job and academy training as soon as he completed high school, which he wasn't able to do.

I just wanted y'all to see what a fine young man he was......
I don't want anyone to reply, and i'm sorry if i've rained on the party here, I just wanted him to be seen again.

A cool thread...the modern world's 'chat over the fence' equivalent...

Except that it is global

A day in the life with all it's personal ramifications...

Calendar wise the UK summer(unfortunately a worse wash-out than usual) is coming to an end...

Hoping for an 'Indian Summer' which can make September a very pleasant month...

Discovered a great heated outdoor spa swimming pool this year and will probably 'go for a soak' later today...

What I hope is that when we share the mundane things here, that we all feel a bit closer, and that the world seems a little bit smaller.

Besides that I'm a stickybeak and your lives interest me~
