Sigh~

Fish and chips in newspaper is just a fading childhood memory for me.

And they call it progress!

You can't beat a good fish supper with a big mug of tea and plain bread'n'butter.

In Glasgow we have them with pickled onions and too much salt and vinegar. In Belfast no chip shops offer onions, but pickled eggs instead,,,,,YEUGH,[scared].In Edinburgh they use brown sauce instead of vinegar. Can you believe it??? [crying]

Totally agree!

Another great way to eat fish & chips is:

1. Buy a small fresh bloomer loaf (or similar sized crusty on the outside & soft inside loaf)
2. Cut end off loaf (about 5th way along)
3. pull out 3/4 inside of loaf
4. Stuff full of fish and chips plus condiments of choice
5. Plug with portion of previously removed inside of loaf
6. Stuff face

The above method works well with most hot fillings (full english is a favourite) and has the benefit over a roll of keeping the contents inside the bread rather than dumping them on your tie (means you CAN have a fried egg sandwich before that important meeting!!)
My current Setup:
Genevieve - My Epi Les Paul Standard in Natural fitted with BB Pros
Dot Studio in faded cherry with GFS Mean 90 in neck and Gibson 57 Classic in bridge.
Home built 52 style tele with matched custom wound Bare Knuckle 'Yardbirds'
Epi BC30 fitted with NOS '61 RCA Blackplates and a '59 Mullard GZ34
Strat style bitsa affectionately known as the plank
Korean Tanglewood TW400N acoustic
EJ200CE Super Jumbo
AXL Player Bass

Very little talent & big dreams!

I eat fried chicken by pulling it apart with my fingers, as opposed to taking a bite out like most would.

I also hold my fork like a cowboy. That's like a bicycle grip, as opposed to 'properly' with thumb on top.

I am aware of this and I DO hold utensils properly at restaurants...BUT, here's a good one: I take my shoes off when I eat. Even at fine restaurants, I sneak them off under the table.

I think I'm about as far from a toff as you can get Johnno. I've been looking for a pic of me eating a cream bun which would have explained it in one but as usual my filing has let me down! Not a pretty sight with a beard and all.

Our stupid health laws stopped that years ago and I really don't think it's a mental thing, I think it's a taste thing myself.

Everything is so bloody sterile and uniform these days it drives me nuts.

I don't go the pickled onions myself but they are (or used to be) popular here...I can't remember seeing them for some time, but that might just be me being vague.

When I was in Britain all those years ago it was "chip butties" that wee all the rage. Never could take to them myself...too bland.

Deep fried anything turns me off (except fish & chips) and putting lollies in batter and frying them makes me shudder.

YUK!
