Product: 57 classic Output: 7.5 Position: Both Magnet: Alnico II Wiring: 2-Conductor (Also availble in Quick Connect™) Details: Vintage Vibes with rich, warm tones and balanced coils. Product: 57 Classic Plus Pickup Output: 8.3 Position: Bridge Magnet: Alnico II Wiring: 2-Conductor (Also availble in Quick Connect™) Details: Like the ’57 Classic but slightly overwound for increased output Product: 57 Classic with 4-Conductor Wiring Pickup Output: 8.3 Position: Both Magnet: Alnico II Wiring: 4-Conductor Details: Vintage Vibes with rich, warm tones and balanced coils. Here is my question: I want a pickup with the output of the 4-conductor 57 classic. Does this mean that I have to have or use a coil tap? Because to be truthful I'm not even sure what in the hell that is/does. I will be putting 57 classics in my SG. I'm just trying to figure out which ones to get. Thanks for your help. damian Posted November 20, 2012 Share Posted November 20, 2012 57+ PUs are 57s with a bit more wind on them ( gives a bit more output volume )......... 4 wire PUs are used to coiltap; removing one coil from the PU........................................ ( The info on the 3rd PU is incorrect.....57s are all @ 7. something and all 57+ are all @ 8. something....... I suggest either two 57s or one 57 and one 57+ in the bridge........ You don't need to buy PUs new; ie, right now on the MLP forum is a 57 set for $125.00, which is about right for a used set mint...... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
L5Larry Posted November 20, 2012 Share Posted November 20, 2012 FYI - You can use a "Plus" in the neck position, size and pole spacing, etc, are all the same. The reason they are "recommended" for bridge position use is only because of the higher output, but you can put it either place. I had to buy two "plus" pickups for a project once because that was all I could get to meet schedule deadlines.
