I am looking into that this week.. Im gonna cut the blocks out tonight so may go get that tomorrow if I can find it (is it a general thing youd find in a hardware DIY shop or is it more specialised than that?) Also im gonna have to glue three bits togther (just like a LP :)) but am not quite sure how im gonna add pressure cos im not sure I have a clamp that big. Will have to work something out .. All part of the fun :)

Haha.. good idea.. I dont have one.. But I wonder if my mum would let me use her prized solid teak expanding table Lol.. probably more chance of Gibson offering me a job :P :)
pippy
......... I wonder if my mum would let me use her prized solid teak expanding table ...... If I were you I'd save that particular lump of wood for the first of your 'Historic Re-issues'.... P.
Rabs
Update number 1 Ok its nothing big yet but its a small start.. I just took the door apart cutting off the joining edges so the bits that I have are totally solid (not sure what wood it is :)).. So I now have the rough size of the block I need. And also a fair few good bits left over that I will keep in case I decide to build something else with them (maybe a pedal rack or something groovy like that :) What a mess :) These are the two main solid bits I got.. They are actually the right size for a LP size together but only give me a few mm of space to cut around.. So I decided to get a third bit just in case and measured it against my LP DC (which is probably the shape im gonna go for or something similar anyway) I really like the look of this wood.. I think it will look well smart when ive sanded down and finshed properly (long way to go for that yet :)) So whats next.. Straighten the edges by sanding them down..Then sand down the tops and get some wood glue and find a way to add pressure when I glue them together (if I can find a decent sized clamp (or afford it :)). Then the real fun part, making the body shape and the methods to construct that. :) More to come soon hopefully.
Strav
That kind of looks like pine, I am not that educated about wood though.
Rabs
That kind of looks like pine, I am not that educated about wood though. I think you may be right there I did some quick reading on it and people have used pine before for guitars.. But it seems the golden rule for pine as a tonewood is it has to be old (which this door is, its older than me :)) So hopefully im on too a cracker.. We will see. gdecantoo
For a cheap clamp take a peice rope and wrap it around the wood. Tie a knot leaving a few inches of slack. take something long (screwdriver) and isert it under the knot and turn. This will tighten the rope and clamp it tight. :)

In saying that I just realised theres a hobby and model shop up the road.. Maybe they will have some.
treedroppings
I've got a 1965 Packard Bell console stereo from an Estate Sale. I bought it in 2005 for $35 for the tubes (Amperex Bugle Boys 2x 12ax7 and 4x el84 plus a recto tube), but the wood is solid maple with a nitro finish and the original speakers(2x12" plus 2x3" I think) remain attached in excellant condition, and the amp chassis is handwound. I think I'll restore the tuner and record player but add a 2 stage preamp. I wanted to hurt my landlord for relicing the finish a little (mostly for exposing it to his fine garage-constructing dust), but it was soo cheap and I guess he couldn't resist the ToNe! Don't underestimate them estate sales ( I am suggesting to find the nearest estate sales team near you)!

LOL, seriously though gibson uses titebond to make firebirds, so you might wanna try that because those wood strips look long enough for laminating! Dont want to kill myself just to make a guitar ;) (which I almost did the last time I sprayed a guitar by doing it in my bathroom where I still find still bits of red 3 years later LOL). pippy
Excellent idea, Rabs, but I cannot help but wonder what on Earth was the original purpose of the tent? Obviously it's for 'standing-up' in rather than 'lying-down' in... A 'changing-room' for the beach, perhaps? P.

I was looking at workers tents that were between £800-£1000 :o So I knew id find something cheaper than that and scoured the interenet and found this http://www.busyoutdoors.com/outhouse-xl-utility-tent/p1157?source=froogle&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=comparison_shopping_feeds&utm_nooverride=
