Hi,

some detailed pics might be helpful, you could upload them here or link them elsewhere. Showing the headstock with the gearless tuners and the open electronics compartment might help dating that instrument, too. I own a couple of GS guitars myself, but none of them configured like you describe. So please make those pics available, otherwise nobody can tell you anything about this guitar. BTW, your caps lock key seems to be stuck…

yes, the link works, however, I can not look at the bigger pictures without creating an account on this nagging website, which I'm not going to do.

Anyway, from looking at the smaller pics: I cannot tell you if this is a "prototype". It has some details which look interesting and seem - at least - to prove that it's an older GS. It has the old Newburgh style knobs (which weren't used on production models), and also the gearless tuners (as far as I can see) look very "old style", like the first or second generation of those tuners. The pickup configuration is unknown to me, Steinberger always had the 89-SA-89R combination on their GM-7 and GS-7 models, except the few ones that came with passive pickups. The little toggle switch looks more like a modification to me, done afterwards. What does it do? Enable the bridge pickup independent from the position of the 5-way switch?. I haven't seen such a switch at this strange position on any Steinie with a 5-way switch elsewhere. All -7 models which have such a toggle switch have it behind the 5-way switch. The electronics compartment looks a little bit less "tidy" than on other original Steinberger guitars. I tend to think the guitar is completely original regarding neck, bridge and body, but the little toggle switch might be an aftermarket addition. It doesn't make too much sense on a guitar with a 5-way switch. However, I don't know for sure.

It's an interesting instrument, and surely a keeper. Congratulations

first owner say to me that he buy it like this !!! in new in 1987!!!!for me at this time GS is not realeased!!!!
according to him this guitar was all original.....with no modifications...,,,,,???

I have a GM7TA and this GS sound better!!!!!
Neck and fret construction was better and stronger!!!!

Could you tell me when first GS was realised?

The first GS was listed in 1991, most of them were built during the years 1991-93. Only a few came later, until the end of the Nashville era in 1998.
