TransTrem RFI

Hello -

I have always owned only S-Trem equipped GM style Steinberger 6 string guitars.

I just bought my first vintage GM with a TransTrem.

I know I will NEVER use the Transposing feature.

- Can I just remove the Transposing Arm & Transposing Pin?

- Are these components essential for proper tuning/function?

- Can I at least lock it into place so I don't need to worry about it?

- I would like to continue to use the tremolo.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Hi,

I wouldn't remove anything. Even without setting up the trem for proper transposing, you get the locking option in "zero position", the same option you have with an S-Trem. This locking option is required for intonation setup and tuning, just like with an S-Trem. It also allows to continue playing with a broken string.

If you're definitely sure you don't need transposing, you'd be better off with an S-Trem, though, as an S-Trem basically is a TT without transposing. So you might also consider trading the TT for an S-Trem (plus some money). If that is an option, you could send me a PM.

Bernd
