My 1952(ish) Gibson LG1

After posting a pic of this in another thread, I thought I would put together a little 'feature' on my LG1. Some people will be horrified, but any way, here goes.

A couple of years ago, I bought a 1959 LG0 from a local eBay ad - it is a fantastic early LG-0 to play with a great sound for G tuning slide and even a good setup for normal guitar picking.

Encouraged by this successful eBay purchase, I bought my 1952 Gibson LG1 from eBay U.S.

Well, what a beast - the setup is awful, there are repaired cracks and splits all over it, the 2 lower bouts have been sitting in water perhaps, and to play normal standard tuning guitar picking, a neck reset and a new saddle would be needed as the strings are a good half inch away from the 12th fret - so basically everything is a bit wrong ( a lot?) and I was fleeced by the eBay seller.

BUT...

I thought I would try it in open D Tuning for bottleneck and lookout - it is perfect, long as the poor guitar holds itself together.

So I have written this thread as an ode to the poor little LG1, which as long as I play slide in D tuning, I love the guitar still! A guitar doesn't need to be perfect every time and for slide the LG1 is a great cheap, ladder braced beast, though I don't want to buy too many more 'slide' guitars!

And I had to get a new case because the original was like a wet piece of cardboard:

I gotta say that rather than ranting and raving about eBay you are taking it all very well. Shows some good style there.

I have gotten the whole slide guitar thing fleshed out. I went with a guitar with this neck setup. Absolutely the most wicked slide guitar I have ever played and when I want to switch from Blind Willie Johnson to some Tommy Johnson - no problem. Some serious Yankee ingenuity.

Thanks for the replies!

I was playing the LG1 yesterday and I was cooking along, so I grabbed the Zoomy and recorded some more tracks which I am pleased with.

Here is my version of 'Louise' by Fred McDowell, hot off the toaster ready to butter and no returns:

Again, this was played on my 1952 Gibson LG1.
