Resonator search

kind of a one trick pony in many ways.

I tend to disagree with this statement, I think resonator guitars have been pidgeon holed by stereotypes. A properly setup "dobro" can play fine for fingerstyle or strumming as well as slide, and the unique sound adds a lot of flavor and color to any type music or playing style.

One of the things my band does is an an acoustic show. I play my L-7 archtop while the other guitar player plays a dobro (the bassman plays a flattop acoustic bass). The sound differences and blending of the two types of guitars makes a really interesting and unique sound. He plays both fingerstyle and slide, and we do everything from Misty and Girl From Ipamema to Robert Johnson blues and Allman Bros. The resonator works great for all of it.

A couple of "economy" brand resonators that seem to be of good quality at a reasonable price are Johnson and Regal.
