I know this is a Gibson forum but I've got a chance to pick up a 1979 or possibly a 1980 Martin D-18 and hope one of you guys can help. Are those years known as good/bad/indifferent for the D-18? I know next to nothing about Martin but this is an under-the-bed kept guitar that's supposed to be in terrific shape and the price is super cheap.
Here's Chris Stapleton playing one, and of course it sounds fantastic even with that extra pickguard on it lol. I guess it could be a vintage one but don't think so.
I bought one over the summer from Sweetwater. It's fantastic! Perfect setup right out of the box and sounds incredible. I've played the USA Frontier and while it was very nice as well I don' think it's 4X as good!
My NGJ150 is amazing! Plays and sounds beautiful. The only complaint I would have about it is that the back has very little "flame" compared to the example pics on the Gibson website. The shoulders have a bit more than the example pics though. Obviously wood is different and as long as it sounds great I'm not bothered with that.
Side question - anyone know what strings come from the factory? Is it the bronze or the phospher bronze?
