  1. I have an Elitist Les Paul Custom, 2004 . In Wine Red. It was made at the Fuji Gen factory . The only difference is the Headstock. Mine does not have the "open book" Gibson style. I have owned and still do several Gibson Les Paul's, and I have always maintained the custom is the best playing Les Paul I have played. The pickups are supposed to be Epiphone, but they are exactly the same tone and DC resistance as my 496/498s in my 1996 Standard. I especially like the Gold Plating on the pickups. Unlike other Epi Customs I have owned with the Gold Tone that wears off. Really great guitars.
  2. I recently had a 2001 Korean Sammick made Sheraton II in natural finish returned to me. It had been a long term loan to my brother. I had since picked up a Sheraton II Pro in Vintage burst. It had been a couple of years. I posed them side by side for a picture and the Natural looked a lot bigger. So I did some measurements, and the Natural is about 1/2 inch larger in several dimensions. I had a 1990 Ebony ES335 and it was the same size. I had swapped cases once with the Gibson 335 case and the Natural fit perfect. It will not fit in the case that came with the Sheraton Pro. I was wondering if anyone had found this. And no it isn't a 339.
  3. My 2001 Sammick made is really a sweet guitar. It is very light compared to my other two Sheratons and the 335. The hardware is good and as i mentioned the pickups have a nice growl to them. The new Sheraton is much cleaner sounding. I like them both. My brother decided to take up Guitar and was using an amplified acoustic. I loaned him the Sheraton and my Super Champ Xd amp. I regret that a little. I will have to ask if he plays it at all and get it back.
  4. Funny, when I was young they said I looked like Sonny Bono. LOL
  5. Yes mine is a 2015. I purchased it a month ago from my local Ma and Pa. I have dealt with them for years and they have a pretty good stock of NOS guitars still in the box brand new. This was the last one and I got it for an extremely good price. They included a good hardshell case. And a complete set up with my strings. I have another one in Natural finish. It is a Sammick built 2001. Really sweet . The pickups are kind of funky in a cool way. The reference to the ES series was an article I read years ago that Gibson used Epi designs to come up with the ES335 thinline style of guitar the year after they bought Epiphone. But that could be just hearsay. Anyway I do like the new model a lot.
  6. Yes it did. It was started by me. I haven't signed in for many years and when I did there was a question about the thread from 2016, and some posts from 2017, and 2019. I just thought I would bring it to rest.
  7. I was thinking it might be an Epiphone specific paint scheme. I know they came before the ES Gibson series came out. Gibbies have the all black sides. I used to think my Korean Sammick built was nice but this modern Chinese version is really sweet. Kudos to Epiphone.
  8. Well i am back after a long hiatus due to cancer. The Chemo took away the feeling in my finger tips and it took many years to return. I have recently due to Covid isolation started playing again. I thinned the heard but still kept my favourite guitars. I still have the Gold Top and it has not changed much, "ie" gotten worse. After looking at several of my Gibsons i feel that the checkering or Stress cracks are due to the chambered body. I have learned to live with it and it is still a favourite of mine. My personal opinion is that in a solid non chambered body the areas where any screw or pot is attached would not come under the same stress as a chambered body. This is not checkering that occurred with age. If so the cracks would not only be restricted to areas where each and every screw that is attached has cracks around it. I am not going to do anything about it. And neither is Gibson. I will just play the crap out of it. But i have always been surprised by that line in the Gibson Warranty about finish issues. Kind of strange. I just wanted to let everyone i could, be aware of this total cover your *** clause.
  9. I recently purchased a new Sheraton II Pro. This is my third Sheraton. I also have a Samick built 2001 in Natural finish . I owned an ebony 2003 Korean model which i sold to get an Ebony Gibson ES335. I really love the Sheratons. So much that i sold the Gibson. I decided to pick up a newer Sherrie to take advantage of the new pickups with the coil taps. The new Sherrie has Vintage Burst. I have owned several "burst" guitars in both Gibson and Fender brands. When i purchased the guitar i really didn't notice hiw the paint scheme was done on the Sheraton. The dark color does not cover the entire side of the guitar. I looked back and the Dot uses the same color treatment. I was wondering why the paint is done this way.
  10. Gibson under no circumstances were going to do anything about finish checking. They pointed me to their warranty. They sent me a copy of this. This Warranty Is Subject To The Following Limitations THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER: 1.Any instrument that has been altered or modified in any way or upon which the serial number has been tampered with or altered. 2.Any instrument whose warranty card has been altered or upon which false information has been given. 3.Any instrument that has been damaged due to misuse, negligence, accident, or improper operation. 4.The subjective issue of tonal characteristics. 5.Shipping damages of any kind. 6.Any instrument that has been subjected to extremes of humidity or temperature 7.Normal wear and tear (i.e., worn frets, worn machine heads, worn plating, string replacement, scratched pickguards, or damages to or discoloration of the instrument finish for any reason). 8.Any instrument that has been purchased from an unauthorized dealer, or upon which unauthorized repair or service has been performed. 9.Any factory installed electronics after a period of one (I) year following the original date of purchase. 10.Cracking, discoloration or damage of any sort to the finish or plating for any reason 11.Gibson does not warranty the playability of a instrument whose "action" is lower than the standard "action" as defined in the owners manual. I pleaded my case on the Les Paul Forums and everybody thought I was crazy not to be really happy that my Goldtop had already started to check. I also talked to my guitar tech and he said he has two of them and they both have the same checking. Apparently all goltops do this to some extent. It has something to do with the gold and the laquer. I have since changed the pickups for a set of Burstbucker 1s and 2s (That I purchased from a guy who took them out of a Historic), and an RS guitarworks vintage pot and 022 cap kit. It is now one of the best sounding guitars I own, and a joy to play. I don't even notice the checking now. I think if anyone read the warranty on Gibson guitars, it might make people think twice. I hope that answers your question. This all took place a couple of years ago. The Checking hasn't gotten any worse, and it isn't just the pot area. Any where a screw went through the finish, including the pickup rings, and pickguard. I haven't had any of the checking that older guitars get from just "being a goldtop" but I am sure it will come.
  11. Hey guys I hope this is the place to get an answer. I have owned a P90 SG Special for 42 years. I have recently rediscovered it. I have many other guitars but I just love the feel of this guitar. I recently aquired an Epi G400 and fell in love with the HB tone. I am currently looking for another Gibson SG. I have seen several of the Faded SG3s recently for sale. I am interesteed to find out more about them. I have seen a Faded SG3 with the dot neck and 3 open coil 490s/498. I have also seen a couple of the same Faded SG3 guitars with nickel covered pickups. Can anyone tell me what pickups are in these. I know the Custom has 57s in it. Any help would be appreciated. I have one I am hoping to look at today. I would really like to get a Standard but these look to be pretty cool. Thanks.
  12. If anyone has pictures of the same issue with their guitars, I would really appreciate a picture or two. I am still waiting for a return from the warranty assesment people at Gibson, and it would be nice to show other guitars with the same issues. It is funny on this issue, most of the players don't think this is anything to worry about, and the collectors are appalled. Not to say that my guitar is a collector guitar, but when you have 17 guitars I guess that is a collection.
  13. I am amazed at how many people have these lines on there guitars. Some even more expensive than mine. But they seem to accept it as part of owning a Gibson guitar. I have 17 electric guitars and have had several "knock off" LPs and none have had this problem. I could see someone say, in Indonesia over tightening the pots, but why so many from Gibson. Is it a case that noboby is complaining, so they don't address the situation or are they just saying that is the way it is. I was told by a tech that this is common in Gold tops, now I am hearing it is not just Goldies. Is there a common ground here. It is finish, or is it the fact they are chambered? I opened the cavity to see if I could see any cracks and there what looks like a plate where the electronics are mounted, I have never seen this in any other LP. Also everyone keeps coming back to "overtightened pots" but as I stated it is hapening where ever a screw, bolt or pot is attached to the top of the guitar. I have a 2008 Studio that I had to wait for manufacture. (Fireburst). It was almost "wet" when I received it and you could really smell the nitro. I will keep a close eye on that one to see what happens as it gets older. Right now I don't see this as "Character" or "Mojo" . I was one of those guys who always thought that the USA Gibson was worth the extra money. Now I am not so sure.
  14. Hey Gibboman. Where are you from in Scotland. I'm fae Dundee. I was a year and a half when I came to Canada. That was 60 years ago. And as for getting rid of your son, it doesn't work! They keep coming back. LOL. I would like to see some pictures of the similar problem. I could use them when I make my case to Gibson.
