Yes they are P100s and they are hot but actually the biggist problem is that they are also too bright which messes with the overdrive tones. I have also read that metal covers take a little bit of high end off so I suppose what I would really be interested in is P90s with black metal covers (not dogear). I not sure if theyn exist though.
The brightness of the P100 is not similar to the plastic P90. I tested a Les Paul with Gibson P90 on and it was much more dynamic and detailed but sadly also noisy.
The P100 sound incredible for jangly stuff but I am really more after making this particular guitar a versatile one.

Thanks for the reply.....I will keep looking

Sorry if I was a little unclear.

I have a LP DC and a Epiphone Casino Elitist (among others). The Epiphone has Metal dogear Gibson P90s on. The LP DC has P100 which I find a little undynamic and also too bright.
I like the sound of the metal covered Gibson P90s. The LP is not dogear so I am looking for metal P90s (not dogear) and in black.
The plastic P90s are too noisy for my taste and I find the noiseless alternatives are more similar to P100 than to P90. Of course I haven't tried them all but the ones I did try was not convincing to me and judging from what i can find on the net I am not the only one.

I know it will not sound the same as the Epiphone but it will get a lot closer and I won't have to deal with the Casino feedback issues.

BTW This is not a P100 bashing, I love them for jangly sounds but the hi end overtones messes with the overdrive and the real P90 doesn't

    All the best

As usual this is almost impossible because I have here beside me a Casino with great P90s on (in metal houses so not much hum) and a LP DC with P100s. Both sound fine but I like the Casino better and would like to have similar pickups on the LP DC.
It is not easy to judge differences from videos where they test Lollar vrs Kinman because I have no personal knowledge of either of them although I imagine that the Lollars sound similar to the Casino. I think I may have to find a place where I can actually try out the different pickups myself because I am simply not unhappy enough with the P100s to throw 300 euros after Kinman or someone else.
Thanks for the replies. They made me realise that the internet is very good for finding what's out there but not for actually forming a fair opinion on things that are so very subjective.

    Hi again

Noone is probably going to read this semi-finished thread but I ran into a guy today who had an explanation about the noisy P90 versus my not noisy one.
It is the housing that makes the difference, the metal ones (like on my Casino) don't have the noise issue while the plastic ones does. Since most (if not all) Gibsons come with the plastic ones it explains why the noise is such a big issue for most people on this site.

Finally I have read so much bad stuff about the P100 but I have to say that to me they sound fine. I took a while to set them up but having the Casino to A/B with helped a lot and they do sound very familiar. Gibson did not get it is nearly as wrong as many posts indicate....
