  1. Agree, but who cares - it's horrible!
  2. The neck grippers failed on mine, then it got sticky. Took it down the dump & one of the guys working there was a picker. He was really pleased with it.(?)
  3. Looked up the blurb on the Epiphone 1963 EJ45,the saddle is made of "imitation bone".
  4. Rosewood, ebony, ceramic, bone Tusq. Who knew?
  5. Am I imagining it or have I seen saddles made of metal & painted white?
  6. Cowboy, I sanded one a few years ago & took a tad too much off. So the saddle didn't fit exactly. So the guitar didn't sound right & I put the wooden saddle back on. This time I found the original saddle to be so similar to Tusq I decided to leave well alone. The Texan plays & sounds better than it did anyway.
  7. bobouz, Thanks for the prompt & helpful reply. I tried putting the Tusq saddle on the Texan, but it wouldn't slot right in like on the Kalamazoo guitars, so I put the original back on. When I strung it back up it played easier than before. Result! Your description of ceramic saddles is very clear - I don't recall ever seeing one, only wooden ones. They seem to work OK on a 12-string,but the Eldorado & Frontier were definitely better with Tusq.
  8. Let's dig up an old topic. I took the wooden saddles out of the Frontier and the Eldorado & put in Tusq, Decided improvement in both - they sound like they should at last. I tried the same with the Bard 12-string and didn't like that at all. Too bright & trebly. So I'VE GOT A SPARE! Might try it on a MIJ Texan Paul McCartney, Does anyone know what they used? It looks like Tusq if maybe a little smoother. And what exactly is ceramic?
  9. All I know is the wood is black. I should have put Frontier, not Eldorado. Eldorado has rosewood saddle. All are 60's & to my mind best kept original.
  10. I have an El Dorado & a Bard 12-string. Epiphone 1960's Kalamazoo. Both have ebony saddles in rosewood bridges. I tried a Tusq saddle on the El Dorado-it just sounded awful & I put the original saddle back straight away.
  11. Is the Plus the gold hardware & MOP TRC?
  12. Original case & tags! All adds value-do not throw away!Case is more than adequate for home use - I'd use it to gig with as long as you don't leave it in a car in extreme climates. From what the photos show it looks fine as is.
  13. The guitar is probably worth 10 times what your Dad paid for it.More if in perfect playing order & good/excellent condition. You need to find a good, honest luthier/repairman to put it right & then you keep it -it was your Dad's after all.
