    SM57's are the economical choice at about $100 each. I run a pair of AT4021 cardioid small condenser mics, and like the sound of them quite a lot. They are $350 each. Of course, the Shure SM81 is another good SDC in the same price range.

    Frankly, there are hundreds of good options.

    I really like that song, and Grace Potter. Thanks for posting. Grace did a segment on LIve From Daryl's House that showed her talents (several of them) very well.

    Also, Kree Harrison from Idol did a bit of Stars early in the season. I really hope Kree does a full studio cover, because her voice and more 'country' take on that song is pretty amazing.

    Get the guitar you really want first. Otherwise, you may just end up buying them both.

    OP, I'd say you should wait and get the J-45. It's a legendary instrument, and will serve well for the rest of your life.
