  1. What kind of bridge pickup do you think Joe Perry has in this 1989 Black Les Paul? The neck pickup appears to be the stock type with the chrome cover on it. But the bridge one is black with no cover. This is from 1989. What do you think he swapped that out with? Thanks for your help.
  2. His is an original black 3 pickup Les Paul custom. He has had it since the late 70's or early 80s. I just assumed he bought it new as a '79, but he said it was a '59. So the logos on the 79's are a little different from the 59's? Or are they exactly the same? By '78, Gibson went back to the dotted i in the logo. The 59's and '79's look the same to me, but I am assuming there could be some slight differences, since so much time had passed.
  3. No serial number. This is an old photo of the guitar from 40 years ago. I was talking to the owner and he said it was a 59 Les Paul. Does that logo look like it could be on a 59? Or do you think it is a later guitar from the 70's or something? It just seemed kind of funny that he said it was a 59, which makes it the most valuable and coveted year for Les Paul guitars. I was wondering if the logo would disprove that.
  4. The logo changed a few times over the years. What date range would this guitar be from? Thanks for your help
  5. I have a 1970s Les Paul Custom. The guitar was missing it's center pickup. I bought a 1970's T top humbucker. I want to wire it back, into the switch. Where should each lead be soldered? The pickup wires are green, white and black The switch has three prongs on one side with red / ground/ clear filling each of them. And it has two prongs on the other side, pushed together and has black attached to it. Where should I solder the green / white / black pickup wires? Thanks for your help
  6. I am seeing a lot of sets of two pickup rings for Les Paul guitars, But I am not seeing any sets of three, or just the center one. What do you recommend? My guitar is missing the ring for the center pickup. Thanks for your help
  7. Ok, so it sounds like I need to find an original 1979 T top neck pickup and install that into the middle pickup position. Thank you for your help.
  8. I am looking to possibly purchase a late 70's Les Paul Custom with 3 pickups. The original T top neck and bridge pickups are still there, but the center pickup is missing. I would obviously want to replace that with a period original. Does that center pickup need to be a certain type of pickup that has special windings or something? Or are all three the same? The pickups do look all the same. I don't recall any special markings on T Top pickups from the 70's. If a guy mixed them up in a box, I don't know how he would put them back in the right place on a guitar other than lead lengths. Thanks for your help .
  9. The volume knobs are lower on the top guitar. Compare the placement to the tailpiece. One is lower than the tail piece, the other guitar the volume knob is right next to it. So it seems the knob placement can be different from guitar to guitar. Compare these two:
  10. Dear Forum, I noticed that the placement of the top two (volume) knobs are lower down on the body on John Cafferty's guitar compared to other late 70s Les Paul customs I have seen. The inside one is almost below the tail piece and the outside knob is barely half way above the tail piece. (see b/w photo) Are the top knobs moved down to be closer together to the lower tone knobs, or are all four moved down? Or is the tail piece moved up? If the knobs are moved down the whole cavity would have to be moved down on the back of the body to allow this? They must be almost a half inch lower than normal. I would like to get one like this, but I am not seeing any for sale that have the knobs liked up like that. Compare to this one:
  11. Thank you for the ID. I just looked. They are not cheap. 5 to 6 k.
  12. What kind of Gibson Acoustic is Jimmy Buffett playing in 1981 on the Tonight Show? Thanks for your help
  13. Can anybody identify the brand of guitar this is? The headstock kind of looks like an Aria, but doesn't have the larger zig zags at the top. And the logo doesn't seem to say Aria. So some other brand? Thanks for your help
  14. Dear Forum, Does anybody out there have a 1987 EDS-1275 SG Double Neck they might not mind turning into cash? Yes, there are a couple dozen EDS-1275's for sale out there, but I am looking specifically for a 1987. In the normal dark cherry red finish. Thanks for your help. Edit: --Never mind, I picked one up already.
