  1. An Irish man walked into a bar and ordered 3 Guinness beers. He drank all 3, paid and left. He continued to do this several times a week. One day the bartender asked why he didn't just order one, drink it, order another and so on. The man explained that he had 2 brothers, one lives in the US and the other in Australia and they have a tradition that whenever they have a beer, they also have one in honor of the other two. One day the man came in and ordered two Guinness. The bartender said "I'm sorry. I guess one of your brothers died?" the man said "No. I gave up beer for Lent".
  2. Back in the 90s, I worked for an airline with a guy who would swap his days off to travel and watch total eclipses wherever they were. He told me it was like an addiction to him.
  3. Here on the east coast, we will get a partial eclipse. I still plan to view it with glasses. We had a total back in 2017. It was really cool.
  4. This is probably what gave the idea to whoever first started making those "shreds" videos.
  5. Blasts from the past. I missed whatever ruckus happened in Sparly's post. I miss out on all the fun.
  6. Coincidentally Peter is playing tomorrow at Maryland Live right near me. My 34 year old son was hinting that we should go see him, but I already had plans to take his younger brother out for his birthday.
  7. I saw that too. Shame. He was certainly a prolific musician.
  8. Congratz on the gig. Hope the next one goes well. I don't what to advise on the humidity. I've played some gigs like that too. There's just no escaping it.
  9. Only music I currently have tickets for, is our annual 4 day bluegrass festival, Delfest. Artists include Old Crow Medicine Show, Marty Stewart, Leftover Salmon, Sierra Ferrell, Yonder Mountain, Green Sky Blue Grass, Jig Jam and many others.
  10. My previous comment was made concerning my speaking voice. Not so much singing. But I know that I don't have a good singing voice. Part of it for me, is that as much of a conscious effort I put into not speaking in that horrible Bal'more Maryland accent, I can still hear it in recordings of myself. But here is some content copied from an article addressing the phenomenon: When listening to a recording of your voice, the sound travels through the air and into your ears – what’s referred to as “air conduction.” The sound energy vibrates the ear drum and small ear bones. These bones then transmit the sound vibrations to the cochlea, which stimulates nerve axons that send the auditory signal to the brain. However, when you speak, the sound from your voice reaches the inner ear in a different way. While some of the sound is transmitted through air conduction, much of the sound is internally conducted directly through your skull bones. When you hear your own voice when you speak, it’s due to a blend of both external and internal conduction, and internal bone conduction appears to boost the lower frequencies. For this reason, people generally perceive their voice as deeper and richer when they speak. The recorded voice, in comparison, can sound thinner and higher pitched, which many find cringeworthy.
  11. Played the first full band gig of 2024 tonight. Also the first gig playing my new PRS through an amp, not just straight into PA. Also the first gig we played at this venue. Place called B.C. Brewery. Huge stage, lot's of space inside and place was packed. Another guitar player, who has filled in for me several times in the past, was there and sat in on several songs. No photos but here's the Set List with a few "new" songs added,
  12. Yes. I hate my own voice. And I read an article years ago explaining this phenomenon that everyone hates hearing their own voice, but I can't remember the details now.
  13. He's also doing a remake of his single Going Home with 60 other guitar players , with the proceeds going to a Teenage Cancer Trust charity. https://www.billboard.com/music/rock/mark-knopfler-guitarists-going-home-charity-single-bruce-springsteen-slash-townshend-1235602787/
