    My Hero

Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead. rct
  2. If it doesn't get used out it goes. I've been trading my whole life, never give it a thought once it is decided that it goes. rct
  3. I realize the warranty expressly excludes finish issues, which puts you up a creek with no boat, but I would definitely take that to a Gibson dealer and start trying to return it. rct
  4. But remember this. They weren't modes and scales to him. They were notes. 2nds and 9ths, 6ths and 13ths, 4ths suspended beyond suspension. There is major tension as well as minor tension, this is where he lived, major tension and relief. Lots of jazz in that country boy. Lots of mistakes too, you only had to see them a few times to catch a bad night or a bad romp through one of their best. Sometimes he just didn't hit the note(s), and you could tell, he didn't hide it at all. But rhythm. Man, that guy could comp behind anyone at anything, just one or two times through Blue Sky and you would see a man happy to play behind Warren or Jack Pearson. The live one from the late 90's, An Evening With The ABB, man, that Blue Sky is just a lesson in how to play that song by the guy that wrote that song. Just incredible to listen to that, a joy to see him do it. Holmel NJ, 4 or 5 times or so in the late 90's they did Franklin's Tower into that one and he was perfect each time. Joyous, the only word I got. Him and a couple chords, his shoulders and Butch following his shoulders, Jaimoe following Butch, Oteil following both of them, it was magic sometimes. "We gotta long way to go this evening so if you don't hear what you wanna hear well, that's just tough. This is an old song called BLUE Sky..." I could just cry. rct
  5. There are no "easy" to play acoustics. Practice makes any acoustic "easy" to play. rct
  6. Yeah, you gotta problem there. Strings off, get it to someone who knows what they are doing. The tenon is pulling, needs a reset. rct
  7. They were. Somewhere in my DVDs I burned one from some VHS Night Flight and other tv shows of the 80's I have a short lived version of The Allmans with the Toler brothers in there, Gregg and Dickey. Really great stuff with them two. rct
  8. No idea whatsoever, in the world of guitars it is not unusual to come across the occasional head scratcher like this one. rct
  9. One of the few Duane years questions I ever asked him was "what were you thinking for that One Way Out solo, and how'd you get them harmonics on that one and Stormy Monday?" "I wasn't thinkin anything. It was hot, them speakers were raging*, and I was just standing in the right spot for both of them. You could bite them notes off they were so good". *2 100 watt heads into 4 cabs with 15" Altecs and JBLs. They had to cover the backs of the cabs with plywood and drywall so they didn't kill Butch. When I was a wee lad of 17 and played his white Les Paul on that Great Southern tour he did, Gloucester County College, I learned from him then "strings up pickups down". That's how you do it. rct
  10. Something like that, Thank You. He hasn't been well for quite some time, I am glad he made it this long. We know each other, but I don't know who you are! rct
  11. Deep House sequences, trying to work up to a whole 4 or 5 minute song. Lots of fun. rct
  12. The 0001 is not a gibson serial number, that's not where they put it. It's a post 1970 -ish reissue double cut junior, all of them were mahogany, possibly Cardinal Red, that was a color they did back then. No hybrid or custom body or prototype about it. The weird routing for the pickup is just that, some weird routing, possibly some Kahler or other type of trem bar that people put on them back then. Maybe, I'm not saying it is, I'm saying maybe. Might be hard to see, but serial should be on the back of the headstock. Sometimes the paint is a bit thick up there and fills it in. Some guitars of that time(approximately) had stamped serials, and that may have come and gone if it was one of them. rct
  13. I'm so sorry, brother. Take care. rct

Yeah, you'll need some stuff to make that do anything, and the learning curve is steep. I'm using a Roland SH-4D for my trips into Deep House arpeggiated sequenced 120BPM goodness. It is a tough road, but man it is fun and satisfying. If you like that stuff, that is. Good luck with it. rct
