  1. The ones in my 81 lp custom were not all that impressive. The neck was ok but the bridge sounded thin with no character. I swapped them out back in the early 90s and I was happy. Good luck!!!
  2. The ones of mine that I do not play go away...so I always do some trading and buying. But after I bought my 57 reissue....well my other Les Pauls went bye bye.......however......I did get an SG 61 RI.........just so if I go jam with others.....or whatever I take it instead of my reissue custom shop one. Only you would be able to answer your question.....are you going to put it aside like your traditional since you have a reissue 58?? Something to think about
  3. Ok so I did read your reply about your budget. You seem to be open minded with a great budget. I have played a lot of acoustics....Yamaha, Cole Clark, Seagull, Gibson, Martins, Guilds.....you get the idea. So with that said....I am primarily an electric player. So I guess I am spoiled a bit on how I like 9 gauge strings and low action. However......I am going to yap a little more about Taylor's....and I am not bashing any of the other good brands....these are just my 2 cents. Here is my current acoustic guitars. I have a 2003 Taylor Dreadnought 810ce and about a week or so ago I bought one of their new Koa 700 series which is the 724ce. It is a grand auditorium body size. I find Taylor's neck to be more like an electric guitar to me. I use 11-53 or so acoustic strings. The dread being a bit bigger makes it a little tougher for me to see over the fretboard as easy as I can do with my new Koa 724ce. They both sound different but the way I have them set up, they both play similar with my new Koa being the better of the 2. I do not know how much more I can say about how well a Taylor plays....to me anyway. And as far as raising and lowering the strings on a Taylor....it is a matter of adjusting the truss rod a bit to bring it around to your liking for the most part. That's all that I have had to do on my new one. My 810ce I did shave the saddle down a bit and everything worked out great. I believe you get a little more for the money as far as the bling factor goes with a Taylor as well compared to Gibson and Martin.....Inlays, binding, etc. My previous other 2 Taylor's were a GS-6 which is no longer made and the 214ce which is still in production and a very popular model. And do not be afraid of getting a well kep t pre owned one either. I would suggest going to a reputable dealer and try several different brands.
  4. You mention you have a few cheaper and older guitars. You haven't mentioned anything about your budget. However, I am going to recommend Taylor guitars. I find them to have the best playing experience for me. I have a couple currently. Even their 214 model plays very nice. Some people complain that their tone is too bright. Well that's another thing I like about them myself. Good luck
  5. I am sorry for your loss. My goodness.....I thought I wasn't seeing correct as there is another man on here who has lost his wife too.....I cannot imagine. But your guitar sure looks nice though!!! And I hope you do put your emotions and feelings into it to help you get through your loss. Of course.....nothing will replace your loved one ever......it only takes the pain away for a little while. Good luck
  6. Thanks for sharing the picture of that SG!! She was a beauty and someone will love it very much. I got my first guitar for Christmas when I was 6 years old. I had an older brother who played. He would show me chords and such but I just held it and made a bunch of noise with it for the most part until I got a little older and more interested in guitars with the desire to play and learn. My mom died of cancer related treatment when I was 13. That's when I poured all of my emotions of her loss into the instrument and devoted a life time of trying to get better to this day. As far as the custom shop es335 goes....well let me tell you something sir....go for it if you can swing it. I too recently bought a brand new custom shop 57 Reissue Les Paul custom shop Gibson. I didn't need it as I already had what I thought were good guitars....but there was something special in this 57 that I had never felt before.....it kind of spoke to me...it played better than any guitar I ever played....maybe it was the big neck profile.....and it sounded better that the other Les Paul's I have owned.........it is my all time favorite guitar now....I do not play it everyday....but I do play it often and it inspires me to play better. It is a fabulous guitar for sure. So with that said........treat yourself and get the custom shop es335.....you may be surprised at how much you would play it!!!
  7. I am lost for words. I am terribly sorry you lost your wife. ...I hope you are happy with your new acoustic guitar as well. It would have been very neat to see your SG. Good luck
  8. Sorry for your loss.....my dad passed away 13 years ago....I think of him often......and you will as well with your dad.
  9. It looks very nice. I think the back looks great myself...and the front has a nice grain to it too ....enjoy!!!
  10. I have had the same thing happened in ebay.....just relist it and keep on going. I quit listing on reverb as soon as they made you wait to get paid until the customer received the item. I still sell on ebay....I have had a few returns but it all works out.
  11. Very nice. I played one a guy brought to a gig i was at one night about 20 years ago. I absolutely loved it. Very great instrument. Learn some licks and play the hell out of it!! Definitely a keeper for sure!!!
  12. If I am going to fork over 4k plus into a guitar, I want mine to be pretty myself. Everyone has their own preference but I would rather put my own miles on a guitar from honest wear. I cannot see where an artificially aged finish ever made a guitar sound better......I can see where it would make it feel broken in though. Enjoy your new guitar!!
  13. From my own other Gibsons from the same era...I always thought it was corian. Yours looks like it too. It can become brittle sometimes too. Bone has more of a sheen to it.
  14. This is just one example and there are a ton more here. The first is a local CL ad and the 2nd is a new model from Sweetwater. I can do without the Murphy lab but this is a prime example to me. It is the same for the standard, classic and traditional runs as well here. If your a fender guy there are some pretty good deals to be had locally. But your $hit out of luck if you are primarily a Gibson player looking for good prices on used ones here in middle TN. https://nashville.craigslist.org/msg/d/nashville-gibson-custom-shop-les-paul/7720628125.html https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPR58VOWCSNH--gibson-custom-1958-les-paul-standard-reissue-vos-washed-cherry-sunburst
