  1. I just have come to prefer short scale stuff.. acoustic, electric, bass (have 22" scale basses_. Never noticed a difference but there could be. ONe step heavier strings tho. Use 11s to get the feel of 10s on normal scale. Still wondered if the 3/4 SG Melody Maker had the 2nd rout. I don't go for single pickup guitars.
  2. Well I know at least w/ Gibson they are called 3/4s, even tho it's more like 7/8. I had gotten interested in the rarely seen Melody Maker 3/4 with the mid 60s SG body shape. .. just lasted 3 years or so. Of course you can see on the earlier Melody Maker 3/4s it's just single bridge pickup, but wondered if the SG style of these had a covered up neck pickup rout like lots of others ( original Fender Musicmaster, etc.) I know some are down on the little Melody Maker single coil p/u. I think it's ok but hear there are some repros that really bring up the sound. Also some say that odd Vibrola they had isn't worth a damn, other say they can be tweaked into being decent. Pretty sure these were all the narrow 1 9/6th nut.
  3. Was interested to find this 2 year old post. I had been thinking about the P-90 on J 160E and CF 100e and wondering if bronze was really dogmeat for the electric sound, but some here are saying it's ok. I had been asking about what J 160e sounds like (never played one) and the reply was it's pretty much an electric guitar sound. That got me to thinking could U in install a good internal acoustic pickup like a K&K, that goes on bottom of the bridge plate and You'd get your acoustic sound that way, and then your electric sound thru the P-90. Just turn one volume control down, the other one up. You could even mix the two sounds. Is that a good idea or dumb idea for getting a decent electric and acoustic sound out of a J 160E or CF 100E? DC BirdMan is interested in this topic.
