  1. Shout out to Emily11044: Any word on your guitar???
  2. I like Ernie Ball Super Slinkys. They are .009s made from nickel plated steel (NPS) They bend very well, last a long time, and have a balanced tone. If you find you are over-bending you can try .010s, but I'm a .009s guy. D'Addarios in .009/NPS are also excellent and very popular. No COA comes with the guitar. You get a owner's manual, a truss rod wrench, a warranty card, and a "quality checklist". I checked out Guitar Guitar. I wonder how they are going to get a new Lzzy since from what I can tell they were exclusively made for the 2014 model year. I know that dealers sometimes plead with Gibson to produce more of sold out models - maybe that's what going on here. Or maybe the dealer knows that Gibson is coming out with more. Who knows??? You're right to be excited - it's an awesome rock guitar!
  3. Good question about the number produced. Gibson advertised it as a "limited edition" but I don't know how many they plan to ultimately make. Often the usual "limited editions" run between 250 and 400, but in this case I haven't seen any news as to how many they're making. The initial run seems to be out of stock, though as of this morning (4/14/16) Musician's Friend has a "scratch and dent"/open box return for just under $1,500. Where did you order your guitar? If you were given a three month wait it seems that it may be part of another batch. They are definitely getting you a new one? It is only listed on the Gibson website as an available model for year 2014, so maybe they're making a new run. I'd ask your guitar salesman for more info.
  4. The Lzzy is a beast. I love the sound of the 57+ pickup in the bridge - it's can deliver a very heavy tone without the low end getting flubby or the mids getting excessively fat sounding when played with lots of overdrive. She can sound sweet too, but is built to rock. Explorers just feel good to me as well, something about the way they hang on a strap makes you want to rock a little extra harder! :) I hope it arrives sooner than later. I had to wait a while for mine when they first were announced as a "pre-order" and it was frustrating towards the end. It was well worth the wait as it's both a stunning looking and sounding guitar. I've been playing a new Gibson ES Les Paul lately and it's a wonderful guitar too, but in a different way. It's super light, just over 6 pounds, and set up to play effortlessly with rolled fret ends and low fret wire. It sounds amazing clean, or with a touch or dirt. The Memphis Historic pickups are underwound and use unbalanced coils so you can crank your amp a little more and get that creamy overdrive into full blown distortion thing with very long sustaining notes and controllable feedback - my ES has no "f" holes. Blues and classic rock are a no brainer, but I crank her too and find the mids on her remain prominent and growly. She records very well and punches through a muddy mix with ease. Gibsons tend to multiply pretty quickly, so hold on to your seat. I hope you're inspired to write and create musically with your new Gibson!
  5. Welcome to the club! You'll find that this particular guitar really screams. Sustain for days. Really loves chugging those fat low string power chords. Congrats, and let us know once she arrives.
  6. Cool. I asked a few folks I've done business with in the past and they told me they had heard nothing about a black Lzzy model. Let us know what you find out!
  7. Seen the kid on Broadway rockin' Lady Evil? Lady Evil on Broadway
  8. What a great shot! Thanks for sharing! Do you notice any difference between them, either sound-wise, feel-wise, etc? They really are great guitars in all respects - The Classic 57 + pickup is a monster.
  9. I did a little more research - Gibson changed up their serial numbering system for '14, their 120 year in business. See below video: Gibson Serial Numbering System - 2014 So, your Lzzy is the 111,669 Gibson made in '14. Dang, that's a lot of guitars! :) I assume they are going back to their old system in '15.
  10. wow . what a journey! Hope you're happy with the guitar you finally got. You'll soon find out that she growls like no other - the Classic 57 Plus is just a nasty mo-fo! Recheck your serial number 'cause something is outta whack with the one you posted. The serial number pattern is: YDDDYBRRR YY is the production year DDD is the day of the year B is the batch number RRR is the factory ranking/plant designation number. So, your serial number breaks down to the following: 140111669 Year: 2011 (not right). Day of the year: 401 (not right either) Batch number: 1 (not right. They start with batch number 0 and only go to 1 after making almost 670 guitars in the batch. They probably aren't making that many Lzzy's in total). Ranking/plant number: 669. possibly correct, but probably not since the others are all wrong! :) Thanks for posting and thanks for sharing pics!
  11. Premier Guitar - Rig Rundown - Halestorm
  12. Tone Pro Adjustment Info Sorry I don't have a more direct answer to your question! I imagine a little "trial and error" should do the trick.
  13. I don't know what year her sig is based on, but it's probably based on the Explorer she played years ago. I think there is a pic of it in this thread, and you can Google it and maybe identify it. Of course, this model may not be based on that model, but it's a start. I have used Pickguardian in the past when I needed a replacement pickguard and he did a good job and had a pretty quick turn-around if I remember correctly. Have you tried taking the Lzzy to a local guitar shop and maybe pick the brain of the local guitar experts with the guitar in hand? I'm sure most blokes would try to help you out, take measurements, check catalogs, etc. Good luck!
  14. Most folks who make replacement pickguards either request that you send them the original pickguard, or a tracing of the guard so they can make a good fitting replacement. If you're buying from a catalog make sure you can return it if it doesn't fit perfectly, including all of the screws lining up. Lzzy played a white Explorer for years, but I don't know the year or what edition it was based on. Just a white, dot neck Explorer. Her sig model is supposted to be based on that guitar. Sorry can't help more.
