  1. I have had the same problem on a ES 335. It is so subtle its easy to miss. Its the nut slots. Sounds like you have the classic case of the nut grooves grabbing the string and not allowing it to go back to normal tuning after a bend. Plus keep in mind the nut and the strings expand in heat and contract in the cold, so you can have potential problems coming or going. Have the luthire either replace the nut or sand out the nut grooves (very carefully)
  2. You know that Gospel looks identical to a Canadian made Gibson Concert Series, no longer in production. Only differences i see are theinlay on the headstock and the green plastic tuners. But the real differences are a brand new CSM with case was about $1000, (discontinued now) and other material differences: CSM has ebony fretboard, mahogany sides and back all solid wood. But the gospel and the CSM look like clones.
  3. he can own a counterfeit, but it is against Federal law to sell one. He probably purchased it online from a chinese source, had it shipped here, he is skirting the boundaries there, but still hasn't broken a Federal law, it's when he sells it that he is looking at possible prison time, not a few days in jail.
  4. You need a set up by a competent Luthier. I own a 2003 and a 2010 standard Bird. Not all Birds are equal. I had to play several from GC, Sam Ash, Best Buy, small guitar stores until I found these two. In my search the biggest downer was the low E string giving a "Thud" sound, At least 4 of the Birds I played had the "Thud" problem. (J45s too) Now that being said, I am sure if the stores spent the time to change strings, adjust the neck, check out the saddle and nut, and frets, those Birds would probably play fine. The 2003 has had two setups, the 2010 has needed no set ups, really didn't need strings but i changed them anyway. There is something about that HummingBird tone that enthralls me. My favorite acoustic guitar for sure.
