  1. 1987 J 30 Neck Reset

    12 October 2017 - 10:13 AM

I have an '87 J-30 SORS that needs the neck reset. The guitar has the paddle neck joint. I have done about 25 Neck resets on various guitars and I'm going to be doing the work this fall/winter. Does anyone have any real world experience with this neck joint? I'm in the information gathering stage right now so anything helps.

  3. NGD Of Sorts

    22 March 2017 - 03:17 PM

My nephews birthday this weekend and what kind of uncle would I be if I didn't get him a guitar like mine. Has anyone else tried one? I know this should be in the Maestro sub forum but I couldn't resist

First impressions (pro); five year warranty, gig bag included, fit and finish pretty impressive, good attention to detail, stays in tune to some degree.
cons; sounds hellish but will work fine for what he is going to do with it, needs a little tweak at the nut and a couple of high frets. Overall not bad.

I saw that in your post earlier this week Frank. Gibsonless? I was happy for you to have it. Happy to see you moved it along to another appreciative steward, lol. Funny the things that you liked about that guitar were the things I didn't. Hope it served you well.I have just started building 00 & 0 guitars (in the Martin style for now) and understand what you mean about the dread size.

Hey Will - well I passed the J45 on to a new owner last week.I'm past the point of playing dread size guitars. The new owner has another 1994 with the same nitro lift, so wasn't fazed by tgat at all. It's in good, appreciative hands! Frank

Hey Will - the J-45 is doing very nicely. It gets its appointed spot in my guitar rotation. It's a great Gibson, with enough grit in its tone to bely the rosewood b&s.
    Happy New Year! Frank
