Thanks both…had more or less come to that conclusion already. I suspect polishing the ridge down might work, but the risk of polishing through the clear into the ebony paint is too high. Playing the guitar this weekend, it really wasn’t noticeable. So I can live with it, especially on a 2021 LP classic at 8.4lbs, which seems to be a low weight for this model. If I do change my mind on that I think an extra layer of clear coat (from a luthier) would sort it.

Have just received a new 2021 Les Paul Classic in ebony. Appreciate this is a common issue what with scraping techniques in the factory but there’s a ridge or step between binding and neck paint. Unfortunately it’s just prominent enough to be noticeable whilst playing. Solutions? I guess the binding could be built up with more clear coat OR the paint taken down a bit to soften the ridge and make it less noticeable. The latter seems much easier. Would anyone suggest trying fine steel wool or scotchbrite to smooth the ridge this or is it a recipe for trouble?! thank

I was just thinking about this before you posted. I think this might be it. When I think about it maybe the strip didn’t fall all the way out which would imply it was attached on one end. The pickup still works too. Having just restrung with expensive strings I don’t want to mess about with it and risk string kinks so I’ll look properly at time of next restring. I’ve owned from new and it’s only ever been handled by pro guitar techs so I doubt it’s botched job but I guess that’s also possible. It does seem an odd thing to have blocking contact between saddle and bridge. If it is the pickup element, it makes me wonder what effect it’s having on acoustic sound. Thanks guys.

Mine is certainly not rosewood, it is some sort of fabric and not glued to the saddle but loose in the slot.

So this piece of material doesn’t come stock with a Gibson Acoustic, it was added later? I would have thought there should be hard contact between saddle and slot, rather than fabric.

Looking for advice please. Changing my hummingbird strings today and the saddle fell out as it sometimes does but along with it came a thin strip of fabric, brown in colour, which has been sitting under the saddle. Is this a stock feature or has it been added by the last guitar tech that set it up?

Lovely specimen, not seen this model before. As much as I'd love to own a standard or traditional, I have to say that I'm not always sure about the plastic binding. Are the tonewoods in, say, a traditional significantly inferior or is it all cosmetic? Easy enough to change pickups anyway but I like the 490/498 combo.
