I recently acquired a 1957 Gibson LG1. The original tuners (at least I believe they are original) on it are functional but stiff. The buttons have shrunk and weathered to the point of coming apart soon and also make it more difficult to turn. I realize I could replace the buttons but I am seriously considering replacing the tuners to provide a more user friendly experience while also preserving the original tuners and buttons. Is a complete tuner replacement with replicas a reasonable approach to this instrument or should I just replace the buttons. Please note that this guitar will be played and not sit in the case. Secondly, in choosing a replacement. Is there any difference between the replicas Elderly sells and the ones Stewmac sells? They seem just a little different? Is one better than the other? Surely, someone has done this and has experience with it.
Thanks in advance.
