  1. Easy there, Smeagle. Easy. But that picture should be banned. Every time I look at it it just looks more and more, well, precious. Precious. MY PRECIOUS!!!!!!
  2. Don't sweat it, pappy, you're welcome here if you like birds. The bridge and saddle look pretty messed up; looks like it might have been removed and replaced. But, then, compare it with this one (1963) which is for sale for $5500 more and you'll see the same crack: Guitar dater project lists the date of your guitar: 1. This result is a match only if the serial number is impressed on headstock and stamped on headstock Your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo Plant, MI, USA in 1964 Production Number: 163765 A rough bird, but the price reflects it. I'd buy it simply because the shipping is only $2.64 and you'll be getting a steal to have it shipped USPS First Class for only $2.64. (It'll probably look like kindling when you get it, but, hey, the shipping was a bargain.)
  3. Resources is it? Buy this book. Seriously. Money back guarantee to have you playing blues in minutes. Then watch this guy's videos. (I know he's an Aussie but Flatbaroque or BK777 can translate for you.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddM5RlWSJ4E&list=PLeL81vpHnM7S1f67XZ9YAuj_nfaRX73Cr Finally, if you've really got the blues, buy one of these. I dare you. It costs less than a new guitar. Hope this helps Sal.
  4. Check out this discussion. I think we might have been talking about your guitar in some of the later posts. Hogeye knows all about this period as his posts in the thread show. Maybe he'll chime in here to clarify. J-180/Everly post I think we may be talking about your guitar in posts 19 and 20 of that link. (edit: we're definitely talking about your guitar there.) Could you please post pictures of your guitar? We'd love to see them (both the Gibson and the Steinegger). And sound samples would be icing on the cake.... Thanks!
  5. Pardon my ignorance, but do they still use a laminate?
  6. nezhawolter, Welcome to the forum. Nice to have you aboard. Just curious, nezhawolter, but I was wondering, do you ever feel like the woman in the green sweater? I'll vote for DR Sunbeams too.
  7. Don't feel bad. I heard a radio interview with Don McLean several months after American Pie came out. He stated then that the words didn't mean anything he just strung them together. FMA
  8. Which Elvis J-200? The King of RockJ-200? or the Gibson Limited Edition J-200? [#7 of 250 and previously played by Melbourne musician Fergus McAlpin. (Maybe Flatbaroque, EuroAussie, or BluesKing 777 can tell you who that is....)] Why not an Elvis Presley Dove? Black or Sunburst? Here's a great link on the Elvis Doves and on the difference between Doves and Hummingbirds. I can tell you that I started searching ebay for an epiphone EJ-200 a couple of years ago and now the price is at least double what it was back then. If you check out the recent thread here on the forum you'll see that the real Elvis J-200 was recently played on British television by Elvis Costello in the company of Priscilla Presley. Makes me wonder if they're shopping it in preparation for auctioning it. So, if it does go to auction the price of a Gibson repro might go up as well. Don't know, maybe someone here has an opinion. (Clapton's Martin from the Unplugged concert sold for about $950k. Somewhere around that time Martin started selling a non limited edition Clapton acoustic which is still being sold by them for around $3k.) It's possible that if the Elvis J-200 goes to auction Gibson might start another run of the collectors' model. What will that do to the price of the original run of 250? And what they'll price the new ones at is anyone's guess. If he reads this, Hogeye would be a great source of info on what Gibson has historically done. Dave F and MP are both collectors so you should heed their information. And by the way, Welcome to the Forum! FMA
  9. I always enjoy hearing the story of your J-50/45. I believe you wrote once that the error was pointed out to you by someone on another forum? Thanks for reminding us of this, Zomby. Too easy to get caught up in minutiae and ignore what the guitar sounds like.
  10. 97 grams equals 3.42 ounces. Not as much as I would have thought. Thanks for posting that. FMA
  11. Matt237, Didn't happened to weigh your guitar before and after or weigh all the elements of the pickup, battery and bag, and loom etc? I'm curious how much weight the pick-up system adds to the guitar. FMA
  12. I've heard of people putting the speaker on its side and the guitar on top of that and leaving them together when they leave the house.
