Hey there, I was using Elixir HD on my J-150 but I recently changed the saddle to bone from Bob Colossi and everything changed (more sustain and loudness) but too bright for elixirs. So after trying different martin strings I ended with DR rares and WOW!! great tone!

Hey there, I just installed a bone saddle from Bob Colosi and bone pins from Stewart McDonald on my J150 and Hummingbird and wow!!big difference, they are back to life. I can not believe all that was missing this time. However, I was using elixir strings with both and was sounding too bright, recently installed Martin Acoustic SP PB and it sounds even better, more balanced. I don't want to change strings every 2 weeks, so is there any option on coated strings other than Elixirs?

I just got some ebony bridge pins from Stewart MacDonald. I have some doubt. As you can see in the photo they look a little off. I pushed as much as I could but they do not go down more. Does this affect the sound or tuning? should return them? I did not notice anything negative but I'd be sure I'm buying the right product.

Hello, my name is David, I'm Mexican and I live in Houston, TX and I've played acoustic for 20 years in praise and worship. After owning Taylors (almost all models) I was dazzled by a Masterbilt Epiphone I bought for $ 500 at GC and could not believe how this could have much better sound than my taylors. That was where I was curious to try Gibson. Before the month was back to GC to change the Masterbilt by HB Pro and thereafter one J35, J45 Custom shop, J-185 and my latest acquisition: 2006 Hummingbird in heritage cherry.

That makes sense. That was the reason I started this thread. Apparently the majority prefers those bright strings. Is it because they are compensated very well what warm guitar with bright strings ?

Elixirs are winning so far! You know what, I used to use them in a lot of Taylors and I hated the way elixirs sounded on them, just too bright! but with Gibson is a different story! I also like DR's (the ones on the green package), but i haven't try them on my burd. Seems like gibson guitars are more sensitive to any change in either the strings , bridge pins or even picks.

As some of you know I recently bought a Hummingbird. After some adjustments so it stayed as it should. I am extremely impressed with the sound of this. It's a 2006 so it already opened. The first string I had on hand were some elixir's nanoweb 12's and they are pretty good, but I would ask those who have experimented with different sets. What have been the experiences with each different set that have tested ?. and which one has better liked you?
