  1. Acoustic Guitar Amp

    21 December 2016 - 07:03 AM

I want a small acoustic amp for Taylor and Gibson acoustic electric guitars. 20 amp is nice but 10 amp is better. Maybe somebody knows an even smaller amp that duplicates acoustic frequencies?

$150 range. Is that enough $$ to hear the intricate acoustic tones?

Ive never owned one for acoustic but I own a bunch for electric guitars. Always playing with no amplification when I'm picken acoustic. Electric guitar amps seem to be not up to the job. Is there any tips I should know about acoustic amps?

    Archtop Build

I enjoyed watching this Euro video showing how an archtop was made entirely by hand. Even the archtop was carved. No laminate.
  5. Strings In The 1950's

    17 October 2016 - 09:13 AM

Were string gauges much the same back in the 1950s. Has there been drastic technical improvement in string technology since then? What was the typical gauge on a Les Paul sitting in a music store in 1955?

Basically what I use is 9 or 10s on electrics and 13s on acoustics. Yea I vary gauges every now and then but I basically use what is what I see other folks using. Was that typical in the 50s? What did Buddy Holly use? What was Chuck Berry and Bill Haley using?

I'm restoring a guitar from the 50s and I want to hear what I would have heard back in the 50s. I suddenly realized I have no idea what strings they used back then.

Were they using flat wound mostly? What did most jazz players use?
