  1. Because Gibson is Gibson. I don't see a J-50 listed in the current years offerings. Most likely because: 1) It doesn't have the batwing pick guard 2) it has the black nut 3) They're catering to folks that want a J45 without the burst
  2. No doubt. He is an encyclopedia of Gibson acoustic information. Such a fun time yesterday getting to know one another.
  3. Amazingly, JCV lives in another country and just happened to be there when I showed up. What are the chances of that? Crazy! I didn't even notice the bear claw on that one! Honestly, I checked out very few guitars while I was there. Once we started talking, the nerdiness took over. I did buy an Epiphone IBG Hummingbird (made in Indonesia) while there. This is my second. Wish I never sold the first. Been looking for something with a poly finish for sharing/camping/beach/pool trips that I don't have to worry about as much as my Gibsons.
  4. I stopped into Fuller's Guitar today to see what was new in the Gibson room and recognized a familiar face. What a surprise to run into none other than Juan Carlos Vejar. What a treat to meet up with a fellow forum member. We ended up grabbing dinner and a couple beers while nerding out over all things Gibson acoustics. Great time!
  5. I may have missed this, but you bought it new, correct? Do you have any authorized Gibson repair shops near you? I ask because I had a similar issue years ago with a brand new Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo Supreme. The abbreviated version is it had a weird buzz from the day I purchased it new. Numerous techs, luthiers and a Gibson authorized warranty shop couldn’t figure it out. I owned the SCSJ for two years and it spent almost 7 full months out of the last 8 1/2 at one of the shops trying to be fixed. Two trips back to Bozeman for warranty work, and they decided to replace it with the guitar of my choice. Ben Broyles with Gibson was fantastic to work with and said the goal was "to help reignite your Gibson dream!" I'm now a die hard Gibson fan for life as a result of my experience. Ultimately, if you purchased it new, I would contact Gibson Montana and get them involved under warranty. Best of luck with your struggles. Here's the long version and resolution:
  6. Congratulations! Beautiful guitar. Hope it brings you many years of joy!
  7. This looks awesome. Congrats on bringing it back to life!
  8. I’ve not been fortunate enough to play a JB model, but am very intrigued by them. Hope to get my hands on one some day. I owned a Larrivee L-03 with Peruvian back and sides, and it was a fantastic guitar. I regret selling that one. The J-15’s I’ve played have been excellent guitars as well.
  9. Rosewood just isn't my cup of tea typically. I purchased a new Martin D-28 in 2002 and never bonded with that guitar. I didn't know anything about playing all the guitars you could get your hands on to find the one you like at the time. I purchased it solely on the recommendation of my two buddies that played guitar. It wasn't until I sold the D-28 and started exploring makers/woods that my eyes were opened to the fact my ears preferred mahogany. I've since owned a handful of rosewood guitars and have played a lot in shops over the years. My best friend has had a Gibson Songwriter for 15 years and I'm not a fan of the sound of it. He loves it. I have another buddy with a Collings rosewood dread and while it's a beautiful guitar it doesn't do it for me sound wise. 62burst's RW Hummingbird sounds great in the clips he's shared. I'm open to liking rosewood guitars, just haven't played one I couldn't live without yet. I played a Gibson AJ at Fuller's around 8 years ago that knocked my socks off, but I wasn't in a position to purchase it at the time. I'm still intrigued with a rosewood 12 fret small bodied Gibson. I really like the sound of this guys custom RW LG2 12 fret: https://forum.gibson.com/topic/169115-gibson-lg-2-custom-rw-12-fret/#comment-2149579
  10. It took me years to figure out I’m a fan of mahogany and maple. Not a fan of rosewood. I’ve enjoyed the walnut guitars I’ve owned/played.
  11. I’m reading this thread for the first time and laughed out loud when I saw it. Good one, Murph!
