I may buy a used guitar, is this finish issue something to worry about?
Dub-T-123 replied to Mike CT's topic in Gibson USA
You got some bad info here. The fretboard cannot shrink separately from the neck it is glued to unless it is no longer glued together. That doesn’t appear to be the case here but generally I feel like the likelihood of that happening is so small it shouldn’t be considered The neck shrunk to a greater extent than the frets. The fret ends are finished over so as the fret end pushes out proud of the neck it pushes the finish along with it Nitro lacquer also can shrink and crack and it tends to do so along seams no matter how fine. That’s why you always see the finish cracking around the Gibson inlay on the headstock. For that reason, the finish cracked along the fretboard to neck seam. There is almost certainly no structural issue. Just like when you see a line in the finish on a Gibson set neck joint. Nothing to worry about -
Anyone Listen To King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard?

I’m at work with a younger guy right now and I let him take over the radio (streaming from Apple Music or something. I’m loving the newer stuff he’s playing. Makes me feel good that it’s not all lost -

I’ve been a fan for a while. I remember we had chatted a few years ago about your son being a fan too I saw them at Red Rocks in Colorado and it was such an awesome show. Saw them before in LA once also. At the Red Rocks show I kinda underestimated the altitude and my wife and I got absolutely hammered -
New Jimmy Page Eds-1275 Custom Shop. Thoughts?

All my guitar playing life there have been things I would like to have but can’t afford. That doesn’t mean the guitar is bad, I just can’t afford it. I can’t state strongly enough that I think the price is ridiculous but cmon this is a sweet axe and Jimmy truly looked and sounded amazing with his 1275 -

I gotta say the price tag is ridiculous but I’m a little bit surprised that none of us even seem really horned up by this thing?? Led Zep is far from being one of my favorite bands but Jimmy Page is like the patron saint of rock n roll. He has to be one of the greatest musicians of all time and he looked so freakin cool with the 1275. I literally can’t watch the song remains the same without crying because it’s so beautiful. Watching Jimmy play the 1275 is like idolatry. You could call it iconic. Again the price tag is insane but holy **** this looks like a ****ing cool guitar -

I have pretty limited experience, but I think the original style bridge has kindof an important influence on the sound thats not to say the 6 saddle bridge sounds bad, but I think there may be some special Tele magic in the original bridge. I got one of the compensated vintage style bridges and it sounds more Tele like than my 6 saddle Tele -

I didn’t do anything creative and it was so expensive to make a guitar. I swear there is no end to the finishing problems… with that said I’ve got 5 neck blanks ready to go lol. I figure if I make 5 bolt ons maybe I’ll get something right once having a fancy pants R9 is like waking up in silk sheets and you don’t really have much drive to attempt something competitive -

Did you read that in the description? I highly doubt it has a satin finish and it looks glossy in the pic -
What year was your standard? the ABR-1 is the bridge. The TP-6 is actually a tailpiece with fine tuners and didn’t normally come on standard models You might be talking about the Nashville bridge which is common on standard models. The mounting posts on the Nashville thread into bushings whereas the ABR-1 mounting posts thread directly into the wood Are you using fresh strings on the new guitar? Fresh strings help a lot with pinch harmonics. Also if you’re using the rhythm pickup you won’t hear the harmonics well through the amp. You should always use the bridge pickup for harmonics

That album is so good to listen to on the couch with a guitar in your hands. Peter’s playing has a really good balance of being easy enough for a casual player but still really interesting and satisfying I always learn something listening to that album

This just popped up on YouTube. I haven’t watched yet but it’s Peter Frampton so it has to be good

$2,000 seems tough for an acoustic. Generally too little for an American guitar and too much for an import

I’ve only been banned once from here. I called Duane’s Hofner project a hack job I still think he ruined that bass, but learned to hold back on sharing my opinions sometimes 😉
