Epiphone Limited / Custom Shop

The other day I was checking out some instruments, just looking for something new,

and I saw this pretty something-burst SG with a batwing pickguard it had an imprint

in the back of the headstock - Epiphone Limited/Custom Shop, when you go to Gibsons

site there is no Epi Custom Shop (as there is Gibson's), in the end, that guitar is

not even catalogued by the Gibson site, what is the meaning of that mark, where are

these guitars made, or are these just limited production instruments?

Do these really have anything different or significantly better than a regular Epi?

I know some do have special pickups, do they keep a better value over time than a

regular Epiphone?

Please, fill me in, I didn't even try it because when I like a guitar, it might be

a financial problem.

Cheers!

More than likely, these are made in China just as all Epiphones are , but that's not to say that they're bad guitars because they're not. It just means that they're limited editions. It could be limited because of the color more than likely or have Gibson pickups in it. Your best bet is to either try it out, or read the reviews on it. Good luck. Either way, I don't think you'll be disappointed .

.......and Indonesia

Custom-shop or limited edition in Epi languange is....

sometimes it's just another color or some minor difference to regular models...

There is no Epi custom-shop, they are made side by side with all the other Epis

It is just a sticker

Oh, I love Indonesia-made Epi's. Better than China or USA epi/gib's.

Also worth noting that:

Limited Edition = Manufactured for specific time frame (6 months/12 months/etc) run size could be anything from 1 to 1,000,000 depending on orders (No production figures available from Epiphone/Gibson)

Limited Run = Specific number of guitars produced (production figures available)

As others have said there is no "custom shop" per se. Usually it means limited runs with special colours or hardware, etc. Not a lot of added value with the CS designation.

Limited Editions with available production figures...

Genesis Deluxe Pro 500 pieces each color

1962 Sheraton 50th anniversary 1962 pieces each color

TV Silver series up to 1000 pieces each model

and some more....

According to the customer service person I spoke to at Epiphone these are classed as Limited Run models. Yes they have the Limited Edition stamp but they are produced in a numerically limited number of pieces (and advertised as being so at the outset).

Models which are simply advertised as Limited Edition with no stated numerical limit are produced during a pre decided time scale and production is limited purely on the basis of orders received for that model during it's production run. No production figures are available for these (outside of Epiphones internal systems)

Yes but not all limited editions are for set numbers of units.

2000EpiLPClassicAmberQuilt.jpg

This is a limited edition because of the colour and black hardware, 2000 classic quilttop. Made right alongside every other classic. No limited production numbers. No real collectiblilty. LEs may carry a little more value but not really an investment.

My point is....

What Wiggi said is not correct - and I showed some examples to proof it

Is it that hard to read ?

What was incorrect? He mentioned limited runs and limited numbers in his first paragraph. Is that hard to read? Others are produced until they decide otherwise whether designated as limited run or limited edition, which is the stamp they use.

Well, first of all, it's a good sticker to have on your guitar. It may even increase the price. Whether it really means much is another question. It could be as mundane as a marketing tool on particular batches, but I expect they're made in the same place and there's not a big difference from a regular fancy Epi.

Old Rocker 59. I agree with you on the not being disappointed. I just recently bought a Riviera LTD with the gold bigsby and all the bling and on the back of the headstock it says proudly in gold ... Epiphone Custom Shop. It has dog ear P90s . Sounds good plays like a dream and I wanted a Gretsch 5120 but couldn't see that much money in a guitar with me being a at home and church only player so this was a obvious choice and I don't regret it s second

Yeah, I've had this Alpine White Epiphone SG Eb-3 Bass for a while now and barely touched it. Because it was just laying about, I put it up on eBay yesterday and... Upon inspection, I noticed the gold "Limited Edition Custom Shop" stamp on the back of the neck and, I'm unsure what that would do to the price of the bass.

Is £200 a bargain or pretty realistic?

At the Qingdao Epiphone factory when a custom shop guitar is built it just means that these Limited editions have something different about them from the standard product line.

My Custom Shop Epiphone 2011 Limited Edition 61 SG Specials were described as having authentic 61 SG style hardware and configuration. Using the 3 in a row Kluson  style tuners by Wilkinson, P90's wound to the 61 spec placed in the same positions as the 61 (different location than the G400), shielded wiring, full sized potentiometers and 61 style cap. wraparound bridge and the 61 style slim taper set neck.

These are very different from the standard G400 SG's that had a lower value , the CS LE 61 SG Special sold for $699 about double the price of a new G400 at the time.  Because there is very little data on them they mistakenly get valued like a regular G400.

So what I'm trying to say is that if you find a Limited Edition Custom Shop Epiphone, they usually worth a little more the than the standard product line.

Some of the best built Casino’s were built at Terada in Japan... Hope Epiphone reintroduces some new Terada Epi’s soon.

I think that may be the slot the USA Casinos are intended to fill.

I believe so.. Hopefully they are every bit as good as the Terada Casino’s. Arguably the Worlds Builder of the finest Crafted Production Guitars...

I’ve had a Royal Tan USA Casino on Order for a year and a half....... The current date of availability is July...
