charlie brown
Anyone know, exactly, what model 12-string (bass) that Crosby is holding here, in this photo? Gibson??? Custom made??? I found out, it was a "one time use," of a "12-string bass," he used at a gig in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Still be interested in knowing which company produced it, or if it was some custom (Luthier) made version. Seems to have a Gibson "open book" headstock. But, that's all I can tell..as there's no brand-name on the headstock. Anyone have any other information, on this "one time used" guitar?! bonzoboy
Hi CB was it conclusively identified as a 12 string bass? The strings look much too thin for it to be a bass, even compared to Tom Peterson's(Cheap Trick) 12 string bass strings(which were light compared to standard bass strings.) these strings are markedly thinner plus he's fretting a chord on it which would be strange on a bass guitar. The body also appears to match Guild hollow body styles but since there's no identifying name on the headstock it is most likely the work of some independent luthier. That's only speculation but the info of it being a bass seems to me that the original captioning might have been erroneous especially when he was always the rhythm guitar player. cjsinla
It's not a bass.
charlie brown
That's just what the tag line, in the article said. I (too) questioned that! Looks (to me) like a Gibson hollowbody 12-string, of some origin. But, has Ibanez, or Washburn like fret markers. I have no (real) idea, at this point. Was hoping someone here, knew...for sure. Guest Farnsbarns
Erm, can it really be that I'm the only person who read the article and realised it was a joke. The entire content of the page is hilarious but clearly ridiculous.
SweetMarie
Well CB, it looks like a 12-string copy of a Super 400... I suspect some sort of custom order--the headstock does look Gibsonesque. Maybe a 70s "Japanese Lawsuit" guitar?

Yeah, although it seems slimmer, maybe like a "Byrdland," with regular scale, and 12-strings. Who knows?! Although, I wish SOMEONE did. Well...(gulp)....maybe not entirely... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve-string_bass The Crosby pic as well as the Entwistle one and some more are faked; not possible. charlie brown
Yeah, I wasn't real sure (pretty skeptical) about the 12-string "bass" thing! But, it's clearly a 12-string guitar, of some sort. And, does seem to be based on an archtop (Jazz Box) like model. I had never seen this photo, for one thing, and to see that kind of a "12-string," really got my curiosity up! Guess I'm not the only one?! http://search.aol.com/aol/imageDetails?s_it=imageDetails&q=David+Crosby%27s+ES+350T+12-string&img=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.12stringbass.net%2Fcsn2x.jpg&v_t=comsearch51-txtlnkusaolp00000051&host=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.euroguitars.co.uk%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ff%3D16%26t%3D3001&width=181&height=108&thumbUrl=http%3A%2F%2Ft1.gstatic.com%2Fimages%3Fq%3Dtbn%3AANd9GcT8ak_5kKqnT5Ff_CcZFw_cmB_HPGMDckRPH7luSD1Ex0SksTta1B5KyPdA%3Awww.12stringbass.net%2Fcsn2x.jpg&b=image%3Fq%3DDavid%2BCrosby%2527s%2BES%2B350T%2B12-string%26v_t%3Dcomsearch51-txtlnkusaolp00000051%26s_it%3DimageResultsBack%26oreq%3Db2ce342af9d54a32ba537e7519e3032f&imgHeight=362&imgWidth=600&imgTitle=European+Guitars+Forums+%E2%80%A2+View+topic+-+A+rare+bird&imgSize=116303&hostName=www.euroguitars.co.uk Some think it was a "Special Order/made" 12-string version, of an ES-350T. The body would tend to confirm that. David, if you're out there, and reading any of this...WHAT IS IT?! CB
jdgm
But, it's clearly a 12-string guitar, of some sort. No I don't think so - look at the p/us, his hand position, and the other obviously fake "12-string bass" pix on the site. The picture is CSN and Y in the early 70s but the Wiki page sez the 1st 12-string bass was a solidbody made by Hamer for Cheap Trick in '78. Also you couldn't make a semi body strong enough to deal with the string tension, it would be very neck-heavy and need 2 truss rods. Are you having us on CB?
