BaZie
Hi all, There's a review of G-400 Pro on Premier Guitar site: http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/20060-epiphone-g-400-pro-review I think of what they said about pickups, especially magnets: "The new G-400 PRO adds more value with coil-tap switching, alnico 5 magnet-powered humbuckers, and improved hardware." "Replacing the Classic’s alnico 2 magnets with alnico 5s provides slightly tighter low-end response and quicker attack." AFAIK, Alnico Classic Pro pickups are equipped with Alnico 2 magnets. Does it mean the guitar has another version of ACP pickups, i.e., with Alnico 5 magnets? That might be interesting.
6string
This official Epiphone page discusses the pickups used in the G-400 Pro. You have to go about 2/3 of the way down to get to the pickup part. Official Epi G-400 Pro This page has a comprehensive discussion on the different magnets used in the pickups over the years… AlNiCo Magnet Discussion
BaZie
Thanks for the links. The "Official Epi G-400 Pro" really says there are Alnico 5 magnets in Alnico Classic Pro pickups. However, I have a chart that clearly says both Probuckers and Alnico Classic Pro's have Alnico 2 magnets, while older Alnico Classic have Alnico 5. Here's the link to my post with this chart: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/97294-what-is-alnico-classic-pickup-comparable-to/page__view__findpost__p__1367902
RobinTheHood
Here are two articles from Epiphone claiming that the Probucker and Classic PRO have Alnico II magnets. The specs on the Epiphone website are wrong unless they've changed the magnets at some point. I also have Epiphone pickup charts dating back to 2006 claiming that the regular Alnico Classics have V magnets. http://www.epiphone....-Challenge.aspx http://www.epiphone....er-pickups.aspx Scroll to the bottom of both pages to see where they talk about the magnet types. BaZie
The specs on the Epiphone website are wrong unless they've changed the magnets at some point. Hence my question, maybe G-400 pro has Alnico Classic Pro's with other magnet type. Who knows. I'm afraid everything's possible, and this is not the first time that Epi's guitar specs on the website are not consistent. But Premier Guitar review repeats the same information, either in "copy/paste" manner, or they know something more ;)
RobinTheHood
Well, Premier guitar is the only reference to that I could find, so maybe they got confused by the G-400 page leaving the word "Classic" from their "Alnico PRO" description on the specifications page.
