Epiphone / Flood Question

Hi all,

I recently ordered an Epiphone Thunderbird IV Ltd Edition in red from Thomann(a German Mail order company - i live in the UK) and was told that the guitar is on back order due to the flood at the Gibson factory in Nashville resulting in a new factory being built and everything being put back by 4 months..

I was under the impression that Epiphones were made at the Epiphone Factory in Korea, would there be any possibility that the limited editions were made at the Nashville factory or that maybe the Nashville flood had a knock on effect on the production in the Korean factory - or are they telling me porky pies?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys

ah, thanks for the welcome pete!!

yes i probably got it wrong regarding the Korea factory thing and it was the china one i meant..

hmm that's confusing then, surely if they ordered the bass from Gibson HQ the order would still get sent from the China factory...unless they mean that they have lost a lot of the order info in the flood...arg.. i dunno.. all i know is i want that damn sexy red bass!!!!!

I doubt that your order is just some piece of

soggy paper gone forever in the flood. It's on

some server somewhere, prolly in 3 places:

Germany, USA, and China. If your dealer is

unsupportive, switch and order it elsewhere.

Gibson is not known as a very dealer-friendly

operation, so don't be too hard on the dealer.

If the replies trigger your bull-**** alarm, then

jump ship. But if their replies make sense,

you'll just hafta be patient.

Maybe your Bird is stuck in that giant traffic

jam in China ? That jam will clear up about

the same time that the miners get rescued

in Chile. It's a messy world outside the UK !

appreciated! yeah, that's more realistic certainly but i can't find a single place selling the Epiphone Thunderbird IV limited edition in Metallic Red anywhere... it was on the Thomann website but now it just says 'The item Epiphone Thunderbird IV LTD Edition RM is currently not part of our inventory.'

very frustrating. one person says they're just waiting for the delivery date to their warehouse but the guy i spoke to the other day said all the orders from Gibson/Epiphone had been pushed back 3-4 months because of the flood. it makes no sense whatsoever!!!! [confused]

i dunno, maybe i should just be patient..

Isn't there ANY other ax, a definitely AVAILABLE one, that GASses you

like that one ? There's possibly stormy weather on your personal horizon,

cuz it's only human nature that the more challenging the acquisition, the

harder it will be for the acquired prize to meet all your expectations. You

may wind up asking yourself "It's gorgeous to see, but do I REALLY care

for its tone, its playability, etc, etc ?"

Obviously, I'm not suggesting that the bass itself is degraded during the

long delay. I am suggesting that we tend to expect a greater reward, for

greater "suffering". This is a misplaced expectation of some sorta justice

from the universe. Unfortunately, suffering just doesn't work that way and

the universe is oblivious to our sense of "justice".

If there's some other, truly available, GAS-inducing bass in your world, it

may be just the bass thaz meant for you. You can be a victim of chance

and circumstance, or on the same spot, you can be an opportunist. Hop

a train to London and buy face-to-face [bass-to-face?].

There's a coupla Ltd Edition basses in my herd. I never sought them out,

but being an opportunist, I just stumbled upon them. Being a stumbling

opportunist, I happened to find them for sale at the same prices as their

respective "Plain Jane" cousins. Go forth with an open mind [and wallet].

well...it's more that i tried out an Epiphone Thunderbird IV in a shop and i LOVE the way it feels and sounds - the problem is i don't care for the standard sunburst finish. what would be super annoying is if i settled for the standard bass and this one came in stock...

crap customer service!

I bought a new Epiphone T/bird pro, the frets began to wear out and split within a matter of weeks.

I rang Epiphone Europe who said they'd send pics of the bass to Nashville. They rang me back and said It was down to me!

Course I've had it looked at an been told its rubbish fret material.

Funny now I've noticed on Bass sites people complaining of exactly the same problem with the Epi pro's.

So perhaps Gods will losing them money, considering that's all their interested in.

...Of course the flood's awful and I wish it hadn't happened, BUT.. Your just ignoring the complaint, you must work for Gibson! their experts at ignoring their customers problems about their instruments, once they have the customers money that is!! If people like me don't complain Gibson will carry on robbing people.

I'm glad they had the flood at Gibson.

Screw you. I had to live through that sh*t. FYI, it wasn't just Gibson that flooded. IT WAS THE WHOLE MIDDLE TENNESSEE AREA!!! There's tons of people that lost everything, and since it's Nashville, many of them were musicians. Many of them lost their instruments and thus lost their livelihoods too.

so anyway, going back to the original reason for my post (and away from the more recent weirdness concerning certain folks' apparent joy at flooding o_O ?!?!?!) i FINALLY got my bass!!

it turns out that i managed to find the exact same Ltd edition Metallic Red Epiphone Thunderbird i was looking for on Ebay. £225 including postage and it came with a fairly decent strap, a seriously hefty Warwick Rocksack and even a putrid green stand (i think i'll paint that...) BARGAIN.

Serial number is U06050002 and she plays, feels, sounds and looks JUST as great as i'd thought.

i do so like happy endings...
