drjoeshmoe
I am answering an online add for a les paul standard. I got two pictures to my phone. First of all does the tres rod cover usually say "les paul standard"? all the ones I see say just standard. It does have two screws. From the pictures it looks real. I asked for him to send to my email and he says he does not have email. He said he is on patrol (hes a cop) and will be off in about an hour. He was asking for offers.. he will take $500. Said his grandpa died about 5 years ago and he has had it in storage. I put in the serial and it comes up as coming from a gibson plant (TN I believe it was) year 2000. Sorry for the rammbling... just trying to hurry and decide. Any ideas?

drjoeshmoe
just having 2 screws on the TRC doesnt help. mind putting up the pics? I only have two small pictures to go by from my phone. I am not a gibson expert but it is the gold-top looking standard (if that makes since) the serial is 00170426
drjoeshmoe
Ok...looking at the photo again and looking at the Gibson logo, The "G" does not start right against the "D" string tuning peg... is this a sure sign of a fake?
drjoeshmoe
Ok, I definatly thing this guy is pushing a foney story and a fake gibson. I found a site with a fake gibson on it and the headstock look identical to the one for sale. The Gibson logo is just off and apparently the TRC should never say "les paul standard" just standard. This guy did not sound like a cop on the phone.. more like an uneducated teenager. He thinks "they will trust a cop wouldn't sell a fake guitar".
