  4. Nibs, Trolls, U2, P'G on/off and now Weight-relief? We really ARE going for the Grand Slam............ As (probably) most of us here know by now and as been discussed pretty much ad nauseam the practice of Weight-Relief was introduced to the Les Paul range in late 1982 and guess what? NO-ONE COULD TELL THE DIFFERENCE. The 9-hole W/R guitars do not sound intrinsically different from solid-bodied instruments. As is now well known it wasn't until someone saw his LP going through an x-ray machine that the 9-hole method was even known to exist (outside of the Gibson plant / workforce). Furthermore from that date until the introduction of the 2013 Traditional EVERY USA-Line Les Paul was weight-relieved in some manner. The Chambered guitars seem to be an exception to the 'They All Sound The Same' statement. The general consensus posted by those who have examples of both always seems to be that they are found to be slightly brighter and with a snappier response but with marginally less 'meat' to their tone, all else being equal, than either the solid-bodied or weight-relieved Lesters. Having a preference for one style over any other is purely a matter of personal preference. Some don't like the concept of W/R; others prefer the easier-on-the-shoulder mass of the chambered guitars. Personally I don't mind any of the styles as long as the guitar balances perfectly, sounds superb and doesn't give me a hernia. I've played a few chambered guitars which were far too light (IMO) to balance well but I put that down more to their having those nasty overweight Grover machines instead of slim-fit Klusons. Equally, though, I've also played several chambered guitars which have been fantastic. In fact one of the nicest-playing LPs I've ever tried was a bone-stock entry-level Studio Faded model. Pip.

  5. 2019 Two-Tone Telecaster Thinline, Daphne Blue on Arctic White. Black binding. '51 Nocaster pickups and man they bark like they supposed to. New type of tuners, three barrel bridge with big lip which I prefer on me teles. And nothing says Christmas like an Ebony fingerboard, especially on a regular old 9.5 neck. Goes well into my collection of Fender boards and necks. Beautiful guitar, the strap locks are going on it in a few and it'll be a keeper. High resolution hiqh quality 5G 3D 4K pitchers: rct

  6. For the seventh year in a row I've made a musical greeting to celebrate the holidays. What started as a simple performance video for this forum with me sitting on the living room couch has grown to become an all-purpose message for my Facebook friends, and the production has swelled as a result. Can't have any Facebook friends' interest flag from lack of visuals. And even though this one's a full-fledged multi-track recording with multiple instruments real and MIDI, it's still designed with your interests in mind, and features my J-45 Legend, which is a wonderous beast. And an Epiphone James Bay "1966" Century, which is just a fantastic guitar for the price. The flu got me, so I was a little short on time to polish it up, but I offer it humbly warts and all. This year's song is Happy Xmas (War is Over) by John Lennon. Written after two years of peace activism and at the height of the protests against the war in Vietnam, its optimistic message that we can bring peace, love, and understanding to our families, communities, and world was perfect in that time and in ours, as well. You might notice certain shots in the video pay homage to another famous work from the the same year, the immortal "Hilltop" Coke commercial (conceived by Mad Men's Don Draper--that's what I saw on TV), which is another memorable work inspiring all of us to seek and achieve harmony. I know I turned the Goofy up a notch on this one, even over last year's space adventure, so I hope it doesn't overpower the beautiful message that a better world can be ours, if you want it. Happy Holidays, all! I hope there are picks and strings under the tree for all of you. http://youtu.be/YdPwuCd_ki0

  7. Merry Christmas everyone... I've had a rough year but am hopeful that things can turn. My neighbors on the Jersey Shore put up a tree every year by the beach entrance. They put this one up two weeks ago, and snapped this picture. I love it, and wanted to share it with you! May you all have a joyous, peaceful holiday season filled with goodwill and family and love and friendship.

  11. The finish on a VOS guitar is lightly aged so it looks like a vintage guitar in very good condition. They also age the hardware some or all of the time.

  12. Merry Christmas, Sal, and I hope you have a better 2020! This, too, shall pass. Merry Christmas to all, and wishing you the opportunity to play your guitars a lot over the holidays. I know I intend to.

  13. Hoped to see my little geographic joke linger longer. Having been dragged up on Long Island and lived from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West, I figured it would be the same for Jersey !

  18. It'll get less noticeable with age. Some ppl claim that properly shielding everything does help. It didn't seem to make a huge difference for me, although I doubt I took all the right steps to do a proper shielding job. Aas far as the youtube reference to 2011, don't know about that . My oldest gibson is a 1995 LP standard, and that did it for a while too. Don't notice it much at all any more. I would not use any sprays. Nitro doesn't getting a long well with almost anything but nitro.. I think if you just give it time, it will dissipate as the nitro slowly and finally cures

  21. I’d be hesitant to spray anything. I’ve used dryer sheets for decades. One wipe last a long time.

  22. It's either a 1994 or 1999. There's no way to tell what model it is withoit seeing the guitar. I would also be able to confirm the year by seeing the front of the headstock as well.

  26. Well there does seem to still be plenty of 2018s about so get one in case they decide never to go back... I didn't realise that the 2018s wernt weight relieved.. But as I said, I have a chambered one with p90s and I love that guitar... Im not really sure it makes much difference. This is my guitar. There are many like it but this one is mine. My guitar is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my guitar is useless. Without my guitar I am useless. I must play my guitar true.
