  1. After 20+ years, I finally got tired of setting up guitars and basses on the Kitchen Island, and decided to try and build a bench for my guitar loft. So after a trip to Home Depot last Friday for some lumber, wood screws, and sand paper, I spent the weekend building it. Now that I've got it assembled, the wife is taking over to stain and poly it. Hopefully I can move it up to the loft next weekend!

  2. That looks great, realmongo. If you don't have a rig to elevate and rest the neck of the guitar, I tend to use either of these right there, and I like them a lot. They are made for working on rifles, but they do well for guitars as well.

  4. Had to serve on a jury three times. Two of them were pretty boring, but ended after a couple days. The 3rd was a Murder trial and that was pretty damn intense and interesting. We were locked-down for six days. Actually, it was a learning experience.

  5. Today was one of those bits and bob type days.. Only got a few bits done. Its one of the things about working in a shared workshop, you have to make sure you dont get distracted talking to people all day, kind of happened today but again I was only there for 3.5 hours...So yeah, not such an interesting update today, kind of building myself back up a bit... But its also nice when I am making these that these are just builds I want to make and theres no rush.I also realised last night I dont have a bridge yet for this build and decided to go all out and am getting a schaller 3D 6 bridge that looks like this if you dont knowI was just a bit bored of TOMs, wraparounds and the standard hardtail (like a non trem strat or tele)... They arent cheap but I wanted this build to be special.... Got some Gotoh tuners on the way too. Used to use Schaller tuners but the last few years the quality of them has seemed to have slipped and they have got more expensive too (probably due to brexit)... Gotoh are kind of what Schaller were a few years ago.Started with the two ebony boards. Got them to the right size (43-56mm).. Marked them all up, so they are ready for their inlays. Also prepared and glued some wings on the headstock to make it wide enough. You can also see here next to the clamped neck a mahogany neck which I cut to shape. I do actually have three builds going on.. The others I will report on some other time Then I also had the mahogany body with me which I needed to get down to 40mm (from 45) as it is going to have a flamed maple cap. Man the tear out on this one.. Cleaned that up And then lastly I started working on how to do these odd oval shaped inlays I have (not sure which build will get them yet).. I didnt have all my bits on me and the ones at the workshop are a bit rubbish so I will do those maybe Monday at home.. Tried to do it freehand with my dremel tool but it didnt really work that well. And that was it really for today. As said, just one of those nothingy days where you only get bits done. But it happens.. Also I kind of need the bridge for the next stages anyway which should arrive Tuesday. So hopefully one day on the weekend I will glue a fretboard and then get back to it next week when the hardware arrives.

  6. It has been returned today for a full refund of original purchase on method of payment. Feels good to get it out of my life, going to shop for something else. More than likely Epiphone.

  7. I agree. Gibson could have an economical and eco friendly high quality mahogany topped guitar as could Epiphone, if nothing else. Mahogany topped guitars have a certain warmth to them and amplify very good, and a certain well focused sound spectrum to them. And, they look good. I had to search high and low to find a used Ltd Edition Natural finish solid top Mahogany Epiphone EL-00 Pro (although there were plenty of sunburst mahog LTD Editions to find), so it was pretty clear that Natural finish solid mahogany topped ones had a demand. Plus, Guild and PRS and Martin and Waterloo/Collings have their own line of solid natural finish solid Mahog topped guitars which get good reviews. Gibson (or Epiphone) should get into the marketplace. Natural finish solid Mahog topped guitars sound unique, are sustainable, and are an alternative to have in one’s collection…especially if they have Gibson-like necks. Just my two cents. 8. BBP, you seem angry. I don't pretend to be 'tough' (I'm no longer in 7th grade), I just said I don't have the other factors that cause so much problem with the COVID virus, such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, obesity, and such....I only have age. I got it.... and got over it.... I have natural antibodies now, so there is not scientific reason for me to get the vaccine. There is also no scientific reason for you to fear me because I refuse to get vaccinated. I won't tell you to not get vaccinated....that's YOUR call...don't tell me to get vaccinated...that's MY call. I suggest my head is where it's always been.... I do NOT take things our government say as gospel, (you have to recognize our government drafted me, sent me to Vietnam, then sprayed me with Agent Orange...that has killed WAY more of us than Charlie ever did!)...so you'll have to excuse me if I'm somewhat skeptical.

  9. Here's what I know.... If you've had chicken Pox, the virus still lives in you.... when you get older, and your immune system gets weaker, or stressed (or both) the virus can flare up again in the form of shingles. So, if you've had chicken pox, you're at risk to get shingles.... someone with shingles can give a non-chicken pox person Chicken Pox, but can't give them shingles.

  11. I think that's the only song Gibson got license to use, so I think they felt like they'd get through youtube's restrictions on copyrighted material use. The other video JC posted had someone comment that they were basically making oasis noises that weren't quite oasis songs haha

  12. You're a sore winner. You got sick with the thing and got lucky and now you're all huffing about how tough you are and how much a bunch of sissies everybody else is. You were part of the problem. Now you complain about people who are part of the solution. Get over it. Like I told my antivax friend, the idea is to get yourself to a place where you're head is back to where it was before the pandemic. Where you don't have to be all wanked about it, smearing some stuff you saw on TV on everything you walk past.

  13. I once knew someone who was nuts for Oasis … and I can tell you that was NG’s main acoustic since he purchased it until Oasis split up. He also had a Ronnie Wood signature J 200 as his other acoustic . If you want to see him playing the J 150 here’s a performance done in Japan in 2006: JC

  14. The Texas Roadhouse here stopped doing the peanuts since COVID started. It is the only steak restaurant left here that is decent but expensive. The only times we go there are for our birthdays. Either Deb or I will get a gift card from the kids to eat there. The only 2 items I like there are the 8 oz. Fillet or the Ribs. I might order a rack and eat half & take the other half home to eat for lunch the next day. Once in a great while we might head to the Outback but its not my favorite. All of my favorite places have closed down since we married. Yes, I always tell people, What happened to prices back in the 60's & 70's? I was in high school and for lunch I could run next door from Thomas Jefferson to McDonalds, where I worked at in summer and get a Big Mac meal and coke for .75c. and get 2 dimes and a nickel back from my buck. Not only have the prices shot way up stupid but the quality of the food has gone way down to crap. Not worth it anymore, It's better to go to the grocery store and cook at home.

  15. I had a quick look through the current models for mahogany tops - none I can see. Gibson are missing out on a craze for hardwood top guitars, budget models AND boutique. The shop here with a range of acoustics cannot keep the Martin 15 series 'hardtops' on the shelves, amazing really - and the 2 local makers sell bucketloads of acoustics made with the local hardwood, 00 and dread and jumbo. The singer songwriter groovers don't seem to be wanting binding or shellfish or plastic. What about 2 new L-00s in all mahogany, tops included - one cheapie African mahogany like my 15 series Martin, but one superduper in ...Sinker Mahogany? Ha Ha! BluesKing777.

  16. Hey everyone! After having sampled a wonderful HG00 that a friend has around 2.6 weeks ago I decided to do a random internet search on 12 fret L-00's . Most results showed up either the Keb Mo model or early 30's models and one of my ultimate dream guitars (a '30/31 all mahogany L-0 but those seem to be quite rare and spendy). Then this one result showed something that was new and in inventory at a big music store site. There wasn't much info on the site about it but they showed 2 in stock so I called and talked with someone about it. It was apparently a 'Limited' run of a few guitars but nothing else. I ended up getting a great deal on one of them halfway thinking that I'd end up using their generous return policy (not something I've done before so I was hesitant) About 2.1 weeks ago it arrived and I've been playing it ever since. I was primarily curious about how the 12 fret neck joint and the L-00 body would interact tonally. Turns out that it's snappy and luscious at the same time - that 12 fret tone that I love mixed with the L-00 tone that I love. Very responsive and full. But get this. What surprised me is that it has a 1.80" nut width and a full C shaped neck that measures about .90" at the first fret. These dimensions are ideal for me and my strange fretting hand issues. With the built in electronics it's only 3.6 pounds (my 1937-38 L-00 is 3.1 pounds). After 2.2 weeks with it, I love it. It's the most satisfying NEW guitar I've had with the way it sounds, looks and feels. I can tell it has a long way to go to open up and develop but that will be part of the fun. My favorite guitar I've owned is my '37ish L-00. But this is a great second to that one. I'm thinking a great third is one of those '30/31 all hog L-0. 😄 I wrote to Gibson customer service to see if I can get more info but haven't heard anything yet. What I know is that it's labeled as a L-00 Bluesmaster Limited. I wonder what the difference is between these and the Blues King? The build quality is the same as or better than my previously owned 50's LG-2. Any others out there have one of these or know anything about them? Regardless, they're really cool and fun guitars with really really good tone.

  18. It's a great one. With it I can dial in simple boost, a little distortion, serious dirt, fuzz, a wall of Foghat, you name it. My bass player buddy fancied mine so much I gave it to him. But I plan on getting another one for myself again. 🙂

  21. It seems that IME the amp is really the best part of providing tone. The guitar helps, but an amp can make a decent guitar sound acceptable at the very least. Conversely, a bad amp can make a great guitar sound poor. Back in the real early 90s I used a DOD Metal X pedal. They are considered rare today, but it has a very nice high-gain sound going straight into the amp's "main" input. This is where I get into the amp part of it. It literally sounds like dog s*** in some run-of-the-mill amp that you had when you were an aspiring teenager (haha) but when I use this pedal in a nice tube amp going into the front-end of it, WOW! It gives a nice thrashy type of distortion - great shred tone. But of course, I'm not that much into playing metal like this a lot these days. My R9 doesn't do metal very well. But... that R9 sounds great with some dirt using my amp's gain channel outputs. I find that I am doing more adjustment on my guitar's tone/volume knobs as I get older as opposed to when again, teen years, these knobs were full-open all day long. You know, we wanted to make as much noise as possible to piss off the neighbors 😄 - and mom. Wasn't about the tone back then, haha! Still have my Metal X pedal and changed that crappy momentary contact (plunger) switch that gets pressed under the footpad where it reliably turns on/off with minimal foot depression. Come to think of it, I replaced these plunger switches in my age-old RP-7 valve pedal board - again from late 90s or something... It's vintage by today's standards, haha! Now, not recommending these, but they still work. Obviously still plugged in so using the RP7 for mod effects - but mainly just let it pass-thru in the effects loop. It sucks going into the front input... Don't know how to describe it other than it sucks if it is not connected after the preamp (in effects loop). It MIGHT improve a crappier amp, but wouldn't count on it. It served its purpose back then. In the end, what type of music one plays the most will determine what they need I believe. I just am in the belief that you put the money into the amp as opposed to a bunch of signal-chain processing items. IDK... I'm not much of a guy for effects. I prefer a good spring reverb dialed in mostly to add slight depth to the tone, but don't get into the strange stuff so much... I mean, can be tastefully done, but I don't want the guitar effects to make up the song. Also easier to gig when your equipment is minimal - less cables to connect, things to go wrong, etc. I like to bring a couple cables, a good tube combo, and of course my guitar to the gig - that's about it.

  22. In 2017, I bought a MIC Casino because I didn’t want to gig anymore with my ES-125TDC, as it was getting fragile. I didn’t expect the Casino to be the equal of that (amazing) guitar, but I figured it would be good enough. It ended up being an insane modding journey, which I did mainly for the fun of it, but the out-of-the-box setup was quite good, actually, with perfectly acceptable fretwork and good action. The only things I did immediately were replacing the pickups with Fralins (and the pots, switch, etc. as long as I was in there), because the originals were too hot, middy, and muddy for my taste; and replacing the tuners. Over the next couple years I replaced everything that could be replaced, and I thinned down the thick poly finish, but all that was just me being OC. The new worn Casinos look good on paper - the newer pickups, and a thin finish, but I haven’t had one in my hands yet. The MIC standard doesn’t feel like my 125, or my 2015 335 for that matter, but it’s a good, stable, well-made instrument.

  25. This might have been one of the last gigs Jesse Ed played with Taj Mahal. In an interview Taj said that for his first three albums and until Davis left the band, it could just as easily been named the Davis Band.

  26. I used to keep them in their case with the Boveda packs. When I finally was able to setup a guitar room that I could control I have them all out on the wall or on a rack. That's my Ovation I bought new in 1970 in the corner.

  27. Right next to my acoustic. 😜 I'd say a semi hollow isn't all that meteorosensitive as an acoustic. But also not as forgiving as an solidbody electric. When humidity/ temperature go extrem the Hummingbird goes to its case first. The Es follows a few days when it stays that way. I don't even have a real case for my Tele.
