  2. Yeah, I'm planning on using an L-shaped guitar cable jack in that thing, to keep it low profile., as I'm a very energetic and percussive player. I looked around; Gibson made four Melody Maker reissues/tributes/whatever you call them, from 2011 to 2013. Traditional Les Paul shaped, SG, like the one I ordered, Explorer shaped., and, a Flying V model. This SG beastie really appeals to me for some reason. 😗

  3. Interesting… Input jack is right near the bridge? That might bother me, but that’s why we are all different and like different stuff I guess. Either way man hope you enjoy the guitar when it gets in your hands.

  4. A young couple want to join a church so they go to see the pastor. The Pastor tells them that they have to go through a sort of trial period and have to abstain from sex for 4 weeks. They respond that it will be difficult because they are newlyweds but they will try. Three weeks go by and they come back to see the pastor who asks them how they are doing. The husband says that the first week was really tough, the second week almost impossible, but they got through it. But during the third week he couldn't take it anymore and one day when his wife bent down to pick up a can of paint he ravaged her right there on the spot. The pastor says "I'm sorry, but you are not welcome at this church" The husband replies "We are not welcome at Home Depot any more either".

  8. Cute. No, not just the guitar, but the way you titled the thread, then off the bat announced you bought a guitar that's known as the "Melody Maker". Fully realizing(I hope) that despite it's name it won't really do much more to help you make melodies than any other guitar. But I've always liked that SG design. My cheap-o '67 Kalamazoo KG-2 had a sorta SG style(as far as body shape went) but not as spiffy. Whitefang

  9. I was expecting a LP shape. Yes that's minimalist enough to suit me alright. I like less knobs too. It looks great.👌 👍 I'd need the pickup at the other end though...

  10. Hey guys, Just thought I’d update you all. I went back to the store and tried out all the J45’s again. So it’s the strangest thing but beside the obvious cosmetic similarities you wouldn’t think the 2 Standards are the same model. The first one is so much warmer sounding and nicer to play than the second newer one that came in the day I was there. So I’ve ruled out the second Standard. Also the first Standard has a nicer grain in the top. I also ruled out the Studio Walnut as too metallic. The Studio Rosewood is lovely though. Nice and warm. But the Standard clinched it for me. It just has that extra depth, a bit more warmth and better balanced I feel. Plus I prefer the neck shape. It’s basically like Salfromcatham said, I’d take the Studio Rosewood over the second Standard but I’d take the first Standard over the Studio Rosewood! So I’ve put down a deposit on the Standard and it’s in the back of the store for me. Should be able to pay the rest early next month! 😊

  11. So I was able to “pre order” one. At least that’s what I was told. Contacted a few guitar centers and one guy there told me basically to go to another GC pay for it well just the amount. And he will get it transferred to his store and “pay for it”. So after a few weeks he still ensures me I have pre ordered the guitar and waiting for shipment from Gibson. But I have yet to receive anything from guitar center to confirm my order or anything like that. Any advice? You guys think I’m good?

  16. How do you tell if a blues band is from Austria? ................. They dress like cowboys. They might have their Americana a little mixed up, but they sound pretty good.

  17. So I ended up putting Martin MA540 PB on there and while it is familiar sound to me, it definitely took some of the sparkle out of the guitar. The factory strings sounded good, I just didn't like them under my fingers. I got a pack of DAddario PB Mediums, which I think are the next set up from the factory size wise and going to see if I like them better.

  18. GC inventory update... Guitars are beginning to ship! Keep space on your method of payment available funds so we have no last-minute declines. These are trickling out about 1-2 per week, at the moment. DM me if you need more info/details as always. Thanks! #itsgettingbetterman

  19. I intend to play it until I die and then pass it down to my son. Here are some pictures of my Nanny with her mandolin when she was a teenager and then one of her a year before she passed on. Also a pic of her at my wedding. Best woman I ever knew.

  21. This might be digressing a bit, but----- Wasn't Samsung the company having battery issues a few years back? You know, phones and tablets going up in flames? I remember joking that; "Those Samsung phones are marvelous. You can talk, text, surf the net and send e-mails and even light your cigarettes with them!" I even recall Samsung WASHING MACHINES bursting into flames! Whitefang

  24. As I've said elsewhere, I have never even played a 335, so I'm in no position to judge. However, I do have a 339. At the time of buying I tried out a 390 also, but it didnt occur to me to consider a 335. When it becomes easier I will try some 335s out of curiosity. Nothing discussed here has given me any pause for thought about my 339. I am secure in my choice & it suits me fine.
