  1. That`s the beauty of being a great song writer ...you don`t have to be a great guitar player . Chords ,melody, a story , some sex appeal ,some mojo ,and confidence .. Speaking on behalf of this under rated era of Gibson flattops , i think Gibson should release a series of signature 70`s styled ,single x braced acoustics. John Mellencamp Dove , Paul Weller - Richard Ashcroft j 45 , Stuart " Woody" Wood Hummingbird . I think they would put smiles on peoples faces .
  2. Tell that to Richard Ashcroft of The Verve . There are some great playing and sounding Gibson`s of this era .
  3. Hi Robzoid , take a mirror with you ...a small mechanics mirror that will fit in sound hole ...examine the top bracing . If it is Single X bracing ..buy the guitar ...if it is Double X bracing and sounds good ,plays fine with low string height ,no belly bulge etc ...buy it !
  4. Hey Woody ...i would love to see a picture of the ring that created that kind of damage lol. The love of your life must have paid a fortune for it.
  5. Beautiful job , guitar sounds great , your choice of song takes me back . Stay safe ,take care ,thanks for sharing .
  6. Reverb has a ton of vintage Gibson`s because their prices are so over the top it`s a bloody joke .
  7. Why bother removing the additional bits ? Sell it as is 1500.00 U.S . Have a good day .
  8. Hi Jim ,the double x brace is not unusual .It was the bracing system used by Gibson generally in the 70`s ...but into the early 80`s to .The system is thought to be less toneful ,more rigid and or less appealing . To each their own , some Gibson's of this design are beautiful and great sounding guitars.
  9. Well hell ,that is a quirky bit of kit , cool ! . Put the original pick guard back in it`s rightful place man . The guitar looks as thought it has had it`s motor kept running through the years, Keep it running and enjoy it . I would love to hear a sound bite of it ...curious about the ladder brace .
  10. Hi Jim . What you have there is a homemade Belly Buster ...it looks like a bit of overkill but....if the top is relatively flat why not. I am curious as to how much of a tone killer the apparatus is . It is definitely not from the factory !
  11. Hello friend and welcome . Your Gospel is indeed a rare concoction of Gibson parts it would seem . Looking at your pictures with the original pick-guard....which is very much like an early 1970`s j 160 e , add that to the back bracing ,could be a j 160 body and a Gospel adorned neck . Does the Gospel have double x top bracing or ladder bracing ? I think Gibson was using ladder bracing on the j 160e . Thanks for sharing , you may never find out exactly ,,,,,,,but you own a lovely bit of Gibson history there.
  12. Hello Timtim , the mid 40`s to 1949 , j 45 -50 are indeed very special and coveted guitars. Quirky specs , evolving design , Excellent craftsmanship . Built by some of Gibsons best ! Advice would be , have cash or charge available in hand ,when you see one which fits your shopping criteria JUMP ON IT ! Don`t think twice and don`t dicker ... Now i am talking about a deal reasonably priced one , reverb has come off it`s rocker ,,,,total rip off. Be patient....... and perhaps ZW will pass along one of his .
  13. I wouldn't take a wheelbarrow in need of repair to Rosa .
  14. Am i reading this right ? You think it`s a buyers market on Reverb ? Not ...it`s a sellers market ...prices for used Gibson`s on Reverb have gone through the roof in the last 2 years .
  15. Wow ...kinda depressing , Jesus boy`s how bout some Butterfly`s and Balloons in these wasted days .
  16. I am glad you were able to get it sorted . It`s always good when a random guy buys a dream guitar to play . Best wishes and have fun !
  17. Nice story , sounds like you need to sell some gear to make a purchase happen ....cash is king . SELL SOME GEAR ! You can tire kick all day long but if it is not affordable, the ultimate guitar will remain out of grasp .
  18. I thank you all for your kind words , this guitar is so beautiful , AAA maple back and sides Adi top ...with a grain to die for . It is a used and played guitar ,with some discoloration on the head stock from what i think was a capo and some dings , but in really nice shape . i have no problem with cosmetic blemish at all as the tone of this beast is really beyond my playing agility, ability ....this guitar is a professional players dream . I have had it to a couple rehearsals and was very humbled . The Baggs Anthem Pickup is a mind blower unto itself ...wow.... I need more time with it before she`s on stage . We are gigging tomorrow ... J45 in hand . Have a great weekend all , nice to be seeing and hearing live music again in Ontario.

  20. Hi all , i have a story to tell , My girl and i go out Saturday on a rainy day tree shopping adventure . We visit our local Nursery's and Box stores looking for a deal on marked down trees and other greenery , well a deal we find ....Fruit trees 25 to 50 percent off ...man i`m in my glory , we fill the truck with half a dozen nice specimens . For shits and giggles i suggest we go to the local box guitar -music shop , i am met with a bit of resistance but....if i buy lunch it`s all good . In i go , Lovie stays in the truck listening to the C.B.C radio , i walk in to the glassed , humidity controlled acoustic room to the not so soothing bangs and twangs of a guy playing a ukulele, i figure i am good for about 2 minutes ... i look left and see a used Dylan SJ 200 ...., i tune and play .....purchase in less time than it took Uke Man to tune that awful retched beast he had in his hands ! ! I am a j 45 guy ....or should i say i was...what a great sounding guitar ! Lunch was really good to .
  21. Ahhh tattoos for guitars .. choose your designs carefully friends .
  22. I own a 1994 Western j 45 , it has two pieces of black fabric . One is located on the top upper bout at the curve in the shoulder ,the other is bottom bout , bottom ,also on the curve of the bout . Both pieces are about 5 inches long ,and seem to be under the kerfing .
