Ray Wylie Hubbard (playing a SJ natural?)
75 Hummingbird replied to PickitPaul's topic in Gibson Acoustic
I had the pleasure of holding in my hands Tom Wilsons j45 ...Tom Wilson of Junkhouse and Blackie and the Rodeo Kings .,i flip the guitar over and the body has a centre seam ,and the perfling round the sound hole not looking like that of a 57 j 45 ,,,this is the year he was told was it`s birth year . The guitar was given to Tom by the late Willie P Bennett`s family . I introduced my self ,by saying ,Tom your a big s.o.b ..and that i was feeling slightly intimidated ....he laughed ,saying he`s a gentle giant from the streets of Hamilton ....Anyhow ,we talked about his guitar`s story , i said ,looks to me like it`s a 57 S.J body ,judging by the f.o.n. and it`s appointments with a grafted j45 neck .. he had no clue ....the thing was sweet , well worn ,had the crap played into it ,sounded great and has written some great songs . Totally my pleasure ...Frank on Frankenstein . -

Ray is a hidden American Gem ! He has taken the long road to becoming an overnight sensation , He`s a great writer and a lover of Gibson`s flat tops with strange pick ups bolted to them . -

1968 Blue Ridge period correct machine heads?
75 Hummingbird replied to 75 Hummingbird's topic in Gibson Acoustic
Here are a few more pics of the 1968 . Single x brace ,mahogany kerfing , laminated maple and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides . has large mahogany bit under fret board tongue . I bought this guitar the last time the crap was hitting the fan 2008 -09 ,not sure what kind of capo the previous owner was using but it was a destructive bit of kit ! The bridge is a very, shall i say crudely shaped ,i have seen this in pictures on Gibsons of this era ,any one with info on this shape or lack of refinement ? I switched out the rosewood saddle for Tusc ...not sure if enhanced the tone but ... 1.70 nut width ,neck shape is like an electric ,very comfy . This guitar likes to be played with a soft touch and has a mellow full voice . -
Trying to find out if the machine heads on my 68 Blue Ridge are period correct . Any help would be appreciated .
