  1. That was nice! Thanks for the invite, I’ll definitely stop by.
  2. He was an accomplished drummer and a fine song writer. Just terrible news.
  3. My most versatile guitar is my 2019 American Professional Series Butterscotch Blonde Telecaster. It has great clean tones, it can get twangy, and it can get real crunchy. And I can crack pecans with it. Ash makes a great pounding material.
  4. I’ve noticed it. Haven’t been inside yet. Usually after I leave Campbell’s I head over to Mid City Grill. Awesome burgers and onion rings.
  5. Asheville is only 50 minutes from my house. I haven’t been there yet but plan to visit soon. If you are ever in JC you should drop by Campbell- Morrell Music. I love the place, I spent over 2K in one week. I asked the manager to ban me for 90 days. He laughed and said he can’t do that. I can’t stay out of the place. It’s going to take me a while to adjust to retirement, I will volunteer at the VA, after a career working for the VA, I’m going to work for free. Funny thing about the Tele, it’s the only guitar Fender makes that I will play. Now I’m jonesing for a Firebird.
  6. I was never a fan of this cat, until now.
  7. Are we allowed to put up guitars for sale on this site?
  8. I’m retired. I have nothing to do and nowhere to go. But I’m going to become a volunteer at the VA here in Johnson City. I retired from the VA and now I’m going to work for free at the VA.
  9. I bought 2 guitars and an amp. The first guitar I bought is an Ovation Viper, all wood from Doug Wyatt Music in Gatlinburg. I dig the guitar. The second guitar I bought is an American Professional Tele, butterscotch blond with one ply black pick guard and a Vox AC10 amp from Campbell’s Music here in Johnson City. I love the guitar and amp.
  10. Rubber Soul is my favorite Beatle album. In My Life is my favorite song on the album, and I think it’s the best song John Lennon ever wrote and recorded.
  11. I can’t post a pic to save my life. This has to be the most lame site for posting your pictures. Now that I got that off my chest, I retired and received a beautiful framed retirement certificate signed by the Director of the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. I moved to East Tennessee and purchased a home in Johnson City. Bought over 10k worth of new furniture and for my retirement gift to me I bought a new amp and guitar. But you will never see a picture because I have exhausted my data for pictures. Pity!
  12. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Roll Tide!
  13. I paid 40.00 for a Who t-shirt this year in Nashville at Bridgestone Arena before the Moving On Tour concert. I only wear it on select and special occasions. The concert was the best concert I’ve ever attended in 100 plus concerts.
  14. Acquiring music and listening to music has changed greatly in my life. Early on in the mid 1960’s I would buy 45’s and play them on my “record player”. Listening to music on the radio was exclusively AM stations. FM had not caught on at this time. As time passed I would buy LP’s and play them on my Magnavox stereo. Radio listening was exclusively FM by the 1970’s. Your album collection was treasured, it was akin to your status as “Landed Gentry” it was also an identifier as to who you were. Your music said a lot about you. Times change, we can’t prevent this, everything changes including us. We get older if we are fortunate, though some die before they get old. Now I’m retired complete with the notion I’m entering the last phase of my life and I reflect back on my life and the constant thread that connects me from youth to present is music. Now I buy my “albums” from ITunes and SiriusXM Classic Vinyl is my radio station of choice. Some changes are good, some are not. I just go with the flow. But I’m absolutely convinced that we Baby Boomers grew up with the best music ever created. And with all that, I say Rock On!
  15. Whether being in the Navy or undergrad school or band mates I have known a lot of folks that had nicknames. Some folks I knew. Marcus “Catfish” Campbell, Johnny “RC Cola” Lewis, Anthony “The Schonz” Scaindra,- a damn fine drummer, David “The Nose” Abrahamowitz- one hell of a keyboard player, Ernie “Highpockets” Fisher. Connie “Crawdaddy” Evens, Sinclair “ Bugeyes” Vandergraff. And then there was me, “ Obla”, “King Daddy”, “ JR” and “Dead Hands”. Anybody have a nickname in a band.
  16. Many decades ago I would visit Parnell Library on the University of Montevallo campus and listen to albums. I can recall checking out the same album for 2 straight weeks, Hejira- Joni Mitchell, to figure out Jaco Pastorius bass lines and enjoy Larry Carlton guitar work.
  17. To be very honest, I wasn’t expecting a great album, but seeing that The Who and the Beatles could do no wrong in my book I bought it. Since Friday evening I have listened to the album 9 times. Townshend has sprinkled elements from Tommy, Quadrophenia, Who’s Next, Who are You. His power chords are fantastic, the synthesizers are reminiscent- especially on a few songs, Roger sings with passion and the rhythm section is impressive. One song in particular Danny and my Ponies reminds me of the song Village Idiot by Van Morrison. Street Song is impressive, yet sad, in the fact Townshend is saying this is it, we are saying this is our street song and to say so long. The album evokes strong emotion, I was but 11 years old when I discovered The Who and the song My Generation and followed the group till present. This is perhaps their last album, they are old men, and I’m not a young man myself, a lot of this album deals with growing old. So this is really their swan song. Where does the time go?
  18. I’ve just finished listening to WHO by The Who, this is their best album since Quadrophenia. Roger Daltrey’s voice is spectacular, as is this album.
  19. Well I have made my decision. I’m going to buy a Gibson 339 figured model in sixties cherry. I toyed with the Fender Tele thin-line, now I love Tele’s but the 339 is a whole different breed of cat that seems to me a guitar worthy of a lifetime of playing enjoyment. And I think they are beautiful. But the Firebird is............,
