What are/were "montana specials?"

I picked up this J60 about 5 years ago, but haven't been able to learn much about it. Haven't seen any others like it despite a lot of research. It's a mid-90's build. Ebony fingerboard, bone nut and saddle, abalone rosettes and inlay around the hole. Anyone know anything about it? As far as I can tell from the serial number, it's from late 93. The last 3 digits are 001--does that mean it's a MTO/one-off? I'm not that familiar with reading the serials.
