Bryce Onions

I have an Epiphone Les Paul ebony triple pickup, possibly a Black beauty. Truss rod cover has "GIBSON" etched vertically on it. Serial number is U02031747 and no other indentifiers. Can someone possibly tell me when and where this guitar was made. Given to me by an old friend who has now passed away and no idea when he acquired it. Can someone help? Thank you
