  1. Hi all I want to replace the stck pickups with Gibson 490s. I have wired them so that they are now 2 wire pickups. It seems that the original pickups go directly to the varitone board as you can see in the photos. The red sheathing from one pickup contains a red wire (hot I presume) and a bare wire (presumably ground). The black sheathing from the other pickup contains a black wire (hot I presume) and a bare wire (presumably ground). I am tempted to cut the original wires leaving an inch or so connected to the board and then solder the new pickup wires to these, rather than unsoldering from the board. Any thoughts? I have see photos from other Lucilles with an apparently different wiring, perhaps from Korea? thanks anthony
  2. I played an Epiphone Les Paul Special in a shop last week and it was stunningly good. Faultless finish and palyed beautifully. It costs 359 euro... The Gibson version costs 4 times the price and to me was practically the same. I have Gibsons, Custom Shop Fenders, Mex Fenders, Epiphone Lucille, Gretsch 5420TG and a Martin acoustic and this guitar will join the stable very soon.
  3. There is a cherry red version that looks wonderful but so far it has not emerged on retail sites to my knowledge.
  4. Played one over the weekend. Brillaint guitar and somewhat addictive!
  5. I am thinking of getting my first SG and the 2019 61 appears to have abr-1 bridge. Anyone tried these yet? Comments on pickups vs 57 classics also welcome. thanks anthony
