    Since the Jessica appears to have the same pickups as the other Slash signatures, chances are the novelty has slightly worn off for people who bought one of those - I'm positive they as well as the Jessica are great guitars (the pickups sound amazing in videos), but even me as a fanboy thinks it's been a bit much Slash stuff lately.     They should not have signed Mustaine. I have nothing but respect for his playing - he took metal rhythm guitar one or three steps further, and in a very musical way. But fanboys of Mustaine - the prospective market - is going to buy a Jackson King V. His golden era was when he played that Jackson, and that will always be foremost in the minds of guitar-playing fans. He's bounced around since his alleged dispute with Jackson - ESP, Dean - and I cannot imagine they sold a whole lot off his name. At premium prices, like for his Gibsons, I'm afraid they won't be a big seller.

    Gibson should have saved the resources to either focus on an earlier 1984 Explorer reissue with lots of marketing before embarking on the Slash campaign, or even better, put out a 1984 Explorer with lots of marketing in between the Appetite Amber, November Burst, Victoria and the (limited?) Anaconda Burst, and the release of the Jessica. The new Standards (the 50s/60s) must have revived the company's resources, so slower and steadier would have been a viable option. I believe it would have made a larger profit, and kept the Gibson name in ever higher esteem.

    Also, there's people's means to actually buy these guitars to reckon with. I daresay most who bought one of the Standards, maybe even a Slash signature model too, do NOT have the means to spend that kind of money on a guitar again for the foreseeable future.

    I almost wet my pants reading that.

  2. Saw The Dixie Dregs last night at The Carolina Theater in Durham, NC. Killer venue. Really small theater. The Steve Morse Band opened. The Dregs did about 2 minutes of Jessica before they launched into Cruise Control. In my wife’s words about the show “that was amazing”.

    I saw and met Jack in Nashville. He plays a few times a month at an old converted train station. The night I saw him he played Elizabeth Reed, he might have done another ABB song, I had a few beers in me. He definitely played Reed.

    It was so funny when he left home and on the first day he made it as far as the end of the fence.

    That of course is the best advice, but one has to have a store near by and that store has to have ever model he wants to try. You may get the first one, but there’s no way you’re gonna get the second one.

    EM, mine is a 2020 Heritage Artisan Aged 535 in Ebony. The pickups are Seymour Duncan Seth Lover SH55s. It’s a warm classic bucker sound. I love it. It has a nice classic sound; sometimes I get Gretsch-y tone out of it… like compressed old POCO, and sometimes just some good slightly driven blues. Warm blues.  And it has a nice fat clean tone as well.

    i don’t go on any electric forums, because that’s just a rabbit hole I don’t need! I also have a Mexican tele that does its job. But the Heritage is great. I went in with the aim of buying a translucent red ES335, and this one sounded just as good, but it was used, so I saved a few bucks.

    My buddy has a Heritage ES-335 clone, he told me it’s the one guitar he would run into his house for if it was on fire.

    What are the 2 Martins? One looks like a D-15, and one looks like a 000-28.

  8. Probably most Gibson’s are going to be easier to play just because of their scale length at 24.75”. Now they do have some stuff that’s longer than that. Martin dreads are 25.4”, and most Martin 00 and 000’s are 24.9”. The oddity being the 000-15 at 25.4”. Remember shorter scale means less tension to tune it to concert pitch. Not sure what scale Guilds are. I think a lot of nylon Spanish guitars are 25” or so.
