  1. Thanks. I was not a fan of the bling initially but I played one and fell in lust. Will admit is has grown on me. Also a tone and mood thing. My new banner LG-2 is dark, stripped down and beautiful and I love those looks as well. Also hear you on the budget. I am in downsizing-towards-retirement mode and have far fewer guitars now than in the past but the current ones will be heirlooms. Stay well.
  2. Thanks all. I truly appreciate the encouragement!
  3. I have been learning my new guitars and procrastinating posting a video. I have such a crazy stress response. My hands are literally shaking when when I turn on the mic and camera. I do love that it is a life long journey...I am going to need it. 🙂 Anyway, thought I would do something silly to take minds off of election day. How many of you know the words to these Peanuts clips? Cheers and thanks for all the great support on this site! https://vimeo.com/475140299
  4. Here are the 3 Gibsons. New LG is definitely the baby of the group.
  5. Thanks again everyone! i just took delivery of a new Custom Shop 1942 Banner LG-2 and am just getting to know it. I do plan on traveling with it but not in more risky travel situations. I now owe a new guitar day post. Plan to doo some playing and recording Saturday. I am finally have the courage too post something on this forum. Cheers!
  6. Very cool guitars Dave. I have a b-stock Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat that is my take anywhere do anything sacrificial lamb and it can hold its own for sure
  7. I did notice that and have a query in to the seller. Will let you know. Thanks!
  8. I hear ya! Traveling more and more by car these days. Also have never had trouble getting a safe spot in the cabin on a plane and I fly 20-30 times per year. Probably greatest risk is theft from my hotel room... Thanks!
  9. Hey, Thanks Kid! I actually had an Emerald travel guitar for a while and never really bonded with it. I think i just missed my wood acoustics too much. I am in more of a 'life is too short to worry about dinging a guitar on a plane' mode. This is at least partially due to how much i enjoy playing the Dove and SJ... Thanks again!
  10. Hey All, I am currently enjoying my two Gibsons, a Doves in Flight and a SJ200 Deluxe Rosewood. They are both amazing and I enjoy how different they are to the point where I have developed a strong preference by song for one or the other. Instead of yin and yang, I could think of them as 'rhythm and blues' or even 'bell and drum'. My ear is still developing though for sure. I do travel a lot though and am thinking of upgrading my travel guitar, currently a nice but too boxy little Yamaha. I actually play each instrument every day so playability and tone matter. I am considering various LG-2s and L-00s and have read the posts comparing them. But, my eye keeps finding this little number on Reverb... https://reverb.com/item/35462685-1966-epiphone-cortez Again, i am a player, not a collector but i was born in 1966 so I have always been on the watch for something interesting from that year. A little nervous about an old used guitar like this but it seems it could be great fun t travel around with. So, which of you would go new/almost new LG-2 or L-00 and which would jump on the Epiphone and why? Thanks in advance! Cheers!
  11. Thanks All, This has been very helpful. The seller contacted Gibson and got confirmation of the year and that they made 50-75 that year but that is all. I think Zombywoof is correct that it is not a limited edition. So the question then is whether this has any impact on value? If the limited run was 40 or so and there are another 20 or so 2017 12-string birds out there, does this lower the value on those? I am assuming the Limiteds were sold with a higher price point originally although i cannot find any info on that. To be clear, I am not going to sweat a few hundreds bucks on a great guitar but would not want to overpay by $1000... These guitars are rare and this one is being sold as-is no returns from credible (at least on Reverb) seller. My assumption would be that the non-Limiteds have slightly lower value and may be more difficult to sell down the road? Thanks again, Eric
  12. Thanks. It is a Reverb listing so trying to get additional info. i have been watching these come and go over the last few months. Trying to find the right one. Thanks again!
  13. Got it. Very helpful. Thanks!
  14. Hey All, I am curious about how consistent truss rod covers are on various Gibson models. In particular, I am looking at a 2017 Hummingbird 12-string. These were limited editions and every picture I can find on the internet has 'Limited' in script on the truss rod cover. The one I am considering does not. To be clear, i could not care less about this other than a concern that this particular guitar may have had work or may not be authentic. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
  15. Hi All, Just got off the phone with the seller/owner. They contacted Gibson and They have agreed that I can send the guitar back to the factory at any time in the future (they are closed right now for covid) and they will replace the guard using a new technique that they believed will solve the issue for good. The owner also looked at the other DIFs that he has in stock and 2 already were showing this issue. he offered me one of those but I am quickly bonding with this one. So, incredible service and communication from the seller and I am very happy with the outcome. Thanks to all here for encouraging me to think through all my options. It was a huge help. NGD thread tbd Cheers!
  16. 62Burst. Thank you. Have heard back from the dealer. He is going to place a call to Gibson and get back to me later today. Looking forward to hearing back. Also, understood on . your points about a standard Dove. thank again for you help and advice.
  17. However, the "chronic issue" would not be chronic to me, and would be solvable in less time than it takes to carefully pack, video document, travel to the shipper's location, and return home. Does that mean you would return it or you would let them fix it? Sorry, hard to be sure i am tracking all the posts correctly...
  18. Thanks. I have not played a standard Dove. i have played standard and true vintage etc higher end hummingbirds and felt there was a significant difference in playability and tone. I have now done a bit of a tour of the recent model DIFs currently on Reverb. Specifically, I looked at late model DIFs that were listed at roughly 65%-80% list cost of a new DIF, which still prices them higher than list price of any brand new Dove standard model. In all but one, close examination of the photos show the pick guards curling up. I inquired about an exceptionally pretty custom model and the seller got back to me that they had not noticed it in the pictures until I pointed it out. Specifically, they have offered to have it fixed locally and to send the guitar back to me with supplies to keep it attached if it starts to lift over time. Not a bad approach... I love the way this guitar plays but am really struggling as a working head of household to justify keeping a $5k guitar that is going to have a chronic issue that does affect playability when i can get a new one with full factory support for $4k... That said, i have a call in to the seller to see if he has any suggestions before i ship it back. What a gorgeous guitar... Here is a picture of the specifics. Thanks for all the helpful comments and ideas!
  19. Hi All, Thanks for all the comments. Somewhat fascinating the difference in answers between this thread and some of the older threads where most of the advice leaned towards returning the guitar. I allowed the guitar to acclimate in a properly humidified room and have noticed that the guard is also lifting at the pointy edge under the strings. that makes three places. I assume it has started to curl and will continue to do so. Maybe it could be removed, flattened and re-applied. Towards the advice of 62Burst, i have played the guitar and absolutely love everything about it except when the point of the pick guard strikes my hand. Financially, it is an interesting conundrum. the price i paid was a bit higher than what I would pay for a brand new Dove Standard but significantly less than what a new DIF would cost. I could go down to the standard, save a few bucks and have the factory warranty/guarantee as an original owner. i could ask the seller to fix this one I could buy a new DIF but am unlikely to shell out that much cash. Hmmm,...
  20. If the repair failed I would not be able to return it and would now have a guitar that was more damaged when I received it...
  21. Hey. Actually, yes. That’s it for me on a late model guitar. I read through lots of posts about failed pick guard repairs of all sorts and simply not inclined to go there. Anything I would do would only drop the value even further. I did press it down. Several times and held it. It popped back up immediately and was at least a centimeter off the top I don’t mind paying for a high -end instrument but am not looking for a project. The return policy is only 48 hours and anything I did would have automatically voided it... The seller claimed the pick guard was not lifting when they packed it for shipping and I believe them. Also, it was lifting in 2 places. Also, right next to the damaged dove was my deluxe SJ200 ready to play. still hunting a dove but will travel need be to play it first. Cheers!
  22. Well. Bummer of bummers. My new to me DIF arrived today. Beautiful guitar. Pick guard is lifting in two places. In the lower spot, it has lifted so much that it scrapes my picking hand when I try to play. Very reputable dealer told me to press it down or try some glue. I requested a return authorization... onward with the search.
  23. I asked the same question about bling and tonal differences and every answer from someone who played or owned both claimed there were differences. I have noticed that myself between standard versions of great Gibson acoustic and the vintage or custom shop models. Was definitely true when I bought my limited SJ200. All that said, the barely used DIF I selected came in very close to the price of a new Dove so I went that way. Will post what I think after I have spent enough time with it.
